Win or lose, Brandon Wildung is going to get the #1 star. 57 saves through regulation.

Mercyhurst caps off the comeback in OT. Easily one of the best games I've seen

RMU has the 5th best record in all of college hockey and is going to miss the NCAA tournament because a goalie played the game of his life. What a joke.

They split the season series 1-1 and each team scored 7 total goals. It is an even match up.

Good season, RMU. Hopefully PSU and RMU play yearly. I'd enjoy getting a rivalry going with them.

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
6 teams out of the NCHC conference are projected to make the field of 16. There are only 8 teams in that conference....
I know some conferences can be dominant, but for 75% of a conference to make the tournament? What is the point of conference tournaments when this happens? RMU is being left out when they have the 5th best record in the country...
Before someone mentions it, yes I know the Atlantic Hockey conference isn't the best.

I guess that's just the way rankings work in college sports in general... just one loss steals the chance for a championship away. It's unfortunate.

The thing that really bugs me is that 6 out of 16 teams will be coming from one conference. 64 teams make the basketball tournament and the most any conference has is 7.

There's six hockey conferences and, what, 35 basketball ones...?

32 basketball conferences with automatic tournament birth (and around 20 only will ever have 1 team because of how small of a conference it is), so that leaves 36 at-large bids for the other 12 conferences. This year the most at-large bids a conference got was 6.mikey287 wrote:There's six hockey conferences and, what, 35 basketball ones...?
Hockey is a lot smaller with only 59 teams in total. Yes there are only 6 conferences, but it makes absolutely no sense that 75% of one conference making the tournament.

And of those six, two of them are pretty weak to be honest...there are a lot of mediocre hockey programs and with almost no place to hide...I'm not saying I vehemently agree or disagree...but college hockey doesn't have a ton of depth, especially in conferences like the Easy AC, for one...

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
The NCAC was formed to be a powerhouse conference. It's not a surprise 6 teams made it. Records don't mean a whole lot. It's all about pairwise ranking. RMU should play some tougher non-league games next season and win them. They beat LSSU which might fall out of division 1...beat Penn State, which is nice but not really a feather in the cap...embarrassed by Colgate...and went 0-1-1 against BGSU. Gotta win more of those.

That's just the way college hockey is. The talent is so concentrated at the top. I'm sure hockey east has had similar numbers before.pittsports87 wrote:32 basketball conferences with automatic tournament birth (and around 20 only will ever have 1 team because of how small of a conference it is), so that leaves 36 at-large bids for the other 12 conferences. Had the chance to attend the NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinal games yesterday in downtown Minneapolis (I live in the Twin Cities and am a hockey junkie) All 4 teams impressed me and i thoroughly enjoyed the high quality of both games. I know some on here were upset that this conference might get as many as 6 teams in the NCAA tourney but from my perspective it would be completely justified (esp with the B10 being so bad as a conference this year).

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
As an addition to my last post, I truly believe forming the B10 hockey conference has set back college hockey in the Midwest and west. So sad to see old, traditionally strong, conferences sent into disarray because of the greed of the B10. Uggghhh

Wish him the best of luck. He did great work this year. He and Holstrom will be sorely missed, along with PJ Musico.

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
This is a trivial complaint and goes back to the way it is with college hockey but this probably the third time in the last 8 years or so Miami has drawn a 1 seed and has had to play against the host team in the opening round or regional finals. Wamp

Providence hockey gets a tournament game in Rhode Island against a higher seeded team from Ohio.
Justice. Now don't gack like the basketball team.

Bailey scored his first NHL goal tonight vs. likely Vezina winner Carey Price (!!!) and the Habs.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:Casey Bailey of PSU is reportedly signing with Toronto.
