Let's not pretend for a second that they weren't pretty good for a long time in the ACHA before making the move up to division one.

The ACHA is basically filled with the B/C teams from schools that have D1 programs. Being good in that league doesn't say too much.count2infinity wrote:Let's not pretend for a second that they weren't pretty good for a long time in the ACHA before making the move up to division one.

RMU is 22nd in Pairwise. Penn St. is 24th. I'm just happy that RMU is finally becoming a team that can make the 16 team playoffs. They are looking at their 2nd year of making the tournament in a row.

I understand that, but you seemed to have insinuated that they built the program overnight by just throwing a ton of money at it, which is completely false.pittsports87 wrote: The ACHA is basically filled with the B/C teams from schools that have D1 programs. Man, if they can sweep Wisconsin next weekend (which is very possible with how bad they are this year), they've set themselves up nicely going into the meat of the B1G schedule. Probably will be flying high with confidence.

So is this Casey Bailey an NHL prospect? Tied for 2nd in goals (18 goals in 24 games) in the NCAA.count2infinity wrote:Man, if they can sweep Wisconsin next weekend (which is very possible with how bad they are this year), they've set themselves up nicely going into the meat of the B1G schedule. I recall the couple games I've been at this year, his line is always a spark on the ice. If memory serves it was Goodwin-Bailey-Holstrom. Those three are always playing with energy out there, just dominating the ice. Not sure how they are individually as far as prospects, but as a line they're awesome.

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
PSU season sweep against Wisconsin. Was at the game today, and they were the dominant the entire game. The score was closer than it should have been into the 3rd. A goal got waived off for Wisconsin that would have made it 2-2, and then PSU scored pretty quickly after that to make it 3-1. Huge swing in the game. I was surprised to see how packed it was for a 2 o'clock game, but the place was filled. Always a lot of fun at the Pegula Arena.

I can't believe how poor Wisconsin is. It's mind boggling that that program can have such an abysmal season.

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
Yeah, it's crazy that the team was in the tourney last year and here they are 20+ games into the season with only 2 wins. I realize they lost about 1/3 of their team to graduation, but still, a storied program like Wisconsin should be able to recruit well.meow wrote:I can't believe how poor Wisconsin is. Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
RMU is in 1st place in Atlantic Hockey, 9 points ahead. Penn State is in 2nd place in the Big 10 but only 2 points behind first. It is good to see both teams having successful seasons.
Anybody going to the Big 10 hockey tournament in Detroit? I have been debating back and forth on going. Since it starts on a Thursday, that is 2 vacation days that I have to use from work. Will probably end up going.

well, they lost to RMU and RMU has a better record, so.... yeah. I don't think anyone here will argue that PSU is a better team than RMU right now.

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
PSU needs to figure out how to play away from State College. They're 10-1-3 at home and 5-7-1 away from Happy Valley. I don't follow a ton of collegiate hockey other than PSU, but that's a huge home ice advantage. I wonder if any other teams have such a big difference in their home and away records.

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
It depends on the conference. The Big Ten, NCHC, and WCHA usually have good home records and poor road records. The Big Ten schools have great atmospheres, but there is usually a big gap between the top ranking schools and the lower ranking schools - talent and skill wise. The WCHA has a few Olympic size rinks, so those schools recruit patient, puck possession skilled type guys and the schools with NA rinks play a hard and fast game. The NCHC falls into both categories.

whoa, there isn't a standard rink size for NCAA hockey? That seems odd.

Re: NCAA Hockey Thread 2014-2015
Oh yea. UA-A has Olympic dimensions. St. Cloud does as well. UNH I think does. Then there are barns like Notre Dame's where the player benches are on opposite sides of the ice and the penalty boxes are on ND's bench side, so road teams have to skate the width of the ice after a kill.
