Re: Car thread
I wanted to buy an Optima battery, but Hyundai (at least back in 2003 when mine was built) uses a battery size unique to the company. I checked all of the usual companies (Interstate, Duralast, DieHard, etc.) and no one made one to fit my car. I had to buy an OEM battery from Hyundai.
Now that I think about it, my brother may have bought an Optima for his last car. I'll ask him.

Or you could get the new Plymouth Superbird:

Re: Car thread
BMW did the same with the E36, made the battery (sourced by Exide) slightly off in dimension so you'd have to get it from BMW. The Redtop fits in the battery well so it's going in whether BMW likes it or not. Helps that the battery is in the trunk, though. Less stuff to get in the way.
Is that a headlight sticker on the faux Superbird or is it encased in a housing?

Re: Car thread
Ah. The fact that pop up headlights are illegal on new production cars led me to believe that was a headlamp.

Re: Car thread
My brother replies that he did eventually have to replace his Optima battery (installed in a Dodge Neon R/T), but it lasted something like eight years before dying.

Re: Car thread
hah. My Dad sold his King Lariat F-250 to a co-worker that owns a farm. The first thing he did was rip out the backseat to make room for chainsaws. He uses it to clear timber and bought it for the motor. KL's are posh, it might be the first to actually see farmwork.

Re: Car thread
Dunno why he'd do that, most of them fold up.
I put my F150 on ebay today for 26k. Already had 2 offers of 22k and 23k. Going to hold out a little longer just to see what else I get.. but I'm pretty stoked and would totally take $23k if it was my best chance at getting rid of the payment. House saving time has arrived.

Trucks are expensive. My wife and I have never paid more than $19K for a vehicle. I've never paid more than $12K for one for my myself.

Re: Car thread
This gets back to the "do you really need a truck?" conversation, which I started a few years ago.
There are definitely some things that I can't fit into my Toyota and it gets annoying at times, but if it's really a pressing issue, I could rent something for the day.

Re: Car thread
I mean this truck is an SUV with a bed. Did we need it? No...which is why it's the first thing to go. But it certainly is a nice thing to have.

Re: Car thread
My Toyota was half that book value. tif would probably assess my character for driving a Corolla, but whatever. It does the job.

Re: Car thread
I want to tow a gooseneck enclosed racing trailer. If it weren't for that I'd just get a winter beater and call it a day. I had a LR Discovery II for a while and the utility was great, but it wasn't the same as having an open bed truck. Next time I'm going all or nothing.

Re: Car thread
I'll probably get an old cummins farm truck with 200k on the clock after this. Having friends with crappy driveways and going hunting 4 months out of the year, it will be worth it.

I'll see your 500 hp Shelby and raise you one custom built '65 Mustang, all wheel drive with 845 horsepowers taken for a leisurely spin around the streets of my fair city by Ken Block.

Don't like rallying or rallycross at all, but I love the Gymkhana videos.
BTW, the Robin episode of Top Gear where Clarkson rolls it like seven times had me in tears.
