I think there's a difference between offering your album for free and just stuffing into everyone's pocket. RE: U2.

Even more bizarre is the obligatory 5 star rating for aforementioned album by Rolling Stone.

Bono, Springsteen, and Mick Jagger can do no wrong in the pages of Rolling Stone.

It'll be interesting to see if this U2 album does anything for their back catalog.

Just watched/heard the new Slipknot song The Devil and I, it was very good. Laugh if you want....but good songs are good songs. Id link the video but this is a family board. The new drummer is supposidly Max Weinbergs kid.

I'm still not sure if I like that song or not. Gonna have to give it a second listen when I'm not so distracted.

Agree... I'll probably listen to it but I do kind of feel like my privacy was violated by Apple and U2 throwing the album on my iPhone. I could change my preferences I guess but... didn't seem like they'd use it for this.

Wings was a pox on music, a pet project done to give Linda something to do (badly). Four or five decent songs, one or two really good ones, and the rest of the catalog is dirge.
Yeah man Band on the Run what an awesome innovative song. He's to music what Carrot Top is to comedy.
That is quite possibly the stupidest public comment I've ever read.

Yesterday, Hey Jude, Blackbird, Helter Skelter, Penny Lane, Eleanor Rigby, We Can Work It Out, Back In The U.S.S.R., Things We Said Today, And I Love Her, Good Day Sunshine, Got To Get You Into My Life.... to name but a few. Wrote or co-wrote over 30 #1 hits in the U.S., plus another 28 in the U.K. (the most ever). He was effectively the musical director of the band and took the Beatles from their 'cute' phase into their mature works from '66 on, which contains their truly revolutionary repertoire. He is largely the reason why the Beatles are still relevant today.

I do not deny that Wings was useless - I said as much when I said 'Live And Let Die' was my favorite Bond song. But I take it for what it was; a vanity project that was all about simple pop songs. But bear in mind that every song they released as a single (about two dozen) reached the Top 40 in the U.S. They may have been light and fluffy and much of their repertoire does not hold up well, but they were immensely popular.

You are well versed in Beetles lore.(I am not) Paul became a hack later in life... I was thinking of something when I wrote that in the Bond thread. Can an early career of dominance be overshadowed by pure hack practices later in life? For example you hear "wings" and think back to wait this is the guy that wrote Hey Jude?

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: Right. So we all get old and then we can't hack it anymore. Is that it?
Sick Boy: Yeah.
Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: That's your theory?
Sick Boy: Yeah. Beautifully ********* illustrated.

No. Although R.E.M. tried their best to prove me wrong.

Not only R.E.M., of course, but they were the first that came to mind.

John and Paul were good at keeping one another's excesses in check.

anyone listen to Plants new album, Lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar? Got some pretty good songs on it.

reminds me of his cover of song to the siren on dreamland, which I think fits him rather well in his later days.

I wasn't a huge fan of his last album (Band of Joy), but other than that, I love his solo stuff.

that is excellent. Fate of Nations (1993) is my favorite. Also enjoy Dreamland (2002) which has a lot of old blues covers of some of his favorite stuff.
