Re: The Pro Wrestling Thread
So KENTA is going to be called Hideo Itami. It won't matter, since the name KENTA doesn't mean much to most fans anyway. Also, they're gonna have to get him a manager, because his English is not great. I figured they weren't going to go with KENTA as his ring name, but I was kind of hoping they'd go with his last name of KOBAYASHI. In all caps, of course.

Re: The Pro Wrestling Thread
how do they come up with stage names? And I'm not talking about one-word pseudonyms like Undertaker, Kane, etc. Like how does Paul Michael Levesque go to Hunter Hearst Helmsley (and then Triple H) or Michael Shawn Hickenbottom to Shawn Michaels (Hickenbottom is an amazing last name, by the way)?Froggy wrote:So KENTA is going to be called Hideo Itami. Re: The Pro Wrestling Thread
From what I've read, they have a column of first names and a column of last names and the wrestler and the creative team get together and pick one from each, and then tweak as necessary.
In the case of KENTA, Hideo Itami is a tribute to a wrestler named Captain New Japan, who used to wrestle under the name of Hideo Saito. When he broke into the business, he went by his full name, Kenta Kobayashi. That was deemed rightfully too similar to the legendary Kenta Kobashi (best wrestler of all time), who had a hand in training and mentoring him, and was also working in the same company at the time. So they dropped the last name, and put his first name in all caps.
Then, you have guys like Daniel Bryan where they basically just flip his first and last name.

Also, I'm sure WWE likes making their own names to reduce conflict when maintaining rights.

Yeah, this is a big part of it. It's actually kind of amazing that CM Punk was able to use that name in the WWE.Spangler wrote:Also, I'm sure WWE likes making their own names to reduce conflict when maintaining rights.

I wouldn't be surprised if he signed over the rights to it, which is why he now goes by "Walking Dead enthusiast, Phil Brooks."Froggy wrote:Yeah, this is a big part of it. Re: The Pro Wrestling Thread
Punk owns his stage name. Hence why Punk's lawyers have sent a 22 page lawsuit to the WWE over money owed to him in royalties(merchandise) and likeness rights(wwe 2k15) after he quit/retired. I am interested to see how this all turns out because since the letter was sent all of the CM Punk stuff(which most of it was discounted) have been pulled from wwe shop.

WWE will say Punk was in breach of contract which he was. Although they might just pay him in hope he'll eventually come back.CERV96 wrote:Punk owns his stage name. Re: The Pro Wrestling Thread
I was thinking settlement. If someone was using a character I created and someone made money off of me I'd be pretty upset. Plus we really don't know what his contract stated. When Punk came back(After pipe bomb speech) he had a pretty big stronghold on Vince so I am guessing he got whatever he wanted out of that deal.

Re: The Pro Wrestling Thread
seriously, **** this Cena storyline and **** Cena. At this point I don't even care about the Make-a-Wish crap. If you don't want him to ever be remotely portrayed as bad, just leave him out of storylines now. He sucks. Cena will win this Sunday I'm sure.

Re: The Pro Wrestling Thread
That SummerSlam beatdown may as well not even have happened. Happy go lucky, joke telling Cena comes right back, and we're supposed to believe Lesnar wants no part of the guy he just beat to Hell and back a few weeks ago? Cena standing there with that f***** smirk on his face as Lesnar circled the ring just drives me insane. I cannot stand this guy any longer.

Yeah you can't keep billing Lesnar as a monster and a beast and have him lose like they have.
