You are what you are, own it. I don't know if it's improved or not, as I don't plan to buy it. As mentioned before I've been buying on even years since 2010 and 2015 hasn't compelled me to change that by any means. For all I know it is better this year and you're right.
But, when multiple people who aren't fan boys comes along and says it's unchanged, I'll believe them before the fan boy.
Enjoy your game, it makes you happy and that's all that matters.
The physics engine is different from 2010 to 2015. Play the games back to back and you'll see there's a substantial difference. Now the goals are pretty similar and the AI makes the same mistakes, but I don't know how we're arguing that the physics isn't any different. The skating alone is a world of change.
When I hear new physics engine I think overhaul in gameplay. I have not seen this in any recent nhl game. The "special move" goal that worked 5 years ago still works in nhl 15. As well the goalie still does a 180 turn on a dime with no in between animation. Besides the slower skating and inability to wreck people if I hadn't heard doc and Edzo calling the game I probably would've mistaken it for nhl 11 or 12 or 13 or 14
I can certainly tell a difference in hits and how the puck moves.
In the NHL 10, 11, 12 - the hits were pretty much animation driven. You'd see the same ones over and over again. The newer versions had more variety, more ragdoll physicis. Same with the puck, you'd see more movement, bounce, deflection in the newer versions.
I'd like to see them turn the game into a tighter checking game. Space is a premium and if you get beside another guy, you pretty much tie their stick up and the puck goes free. That would encourage more puck movement into lanes and less free skating up the ice. This would make better players stand out, the more accurate the passers and the pass accepting, the easier it is to move the puck,.
I've bought every new version of the game for quite a few years now. There's enough changes/improvements year-to-year that I consider it worth the $60, especially considering how much time I spend playing the game. I've only played one "game" on the XBox 1 demo, but I've seen enough to not have any reservations about buying the new one. Seems to be another step in the positive direction.
I'm passing again this year. The graphics are really blurry and I guess the only real reason I wanted the game in the first place was for an excuse to turn my PS4 on which has been collecting dust for months. The new camera angle is about the only thing I like about the demo.

Don't know where you heard there wouldn't be a season mode (or edit player options)...but you've been misled. haha
Watching one of the channels I'm subscribed to on YouTube go through all of the teams while picking one for Be A GM mode (can't report on it because I paused it like 1 minute in to make this post), but the Caps defense is rated 92 overall. LA is 91. That doesn't make sense.
Piggybacking off of MRandall...

Listings of the teams come in about 1:15 or so. Washington was 92 def, Boston 91... LA 91, NYR 93, TB 91, etc.

Found that youtuber when I was trying to figure out what to do with drafting in NHL 14 (first one since '10; didn't know you could leave draft picks unsigned for 2-3 years).
Watching all the stuff, and seeing all that's left out of the next-gen, made me glad I bought '14 for cheap. Looks like '15 is basically a massive visual upgrade... and that's it. Nothing more. 14 looks good enough as it is.

There is no player-controlled draft in Be a GM for NHL 15 (new version). This video confirms. Automatic drafting instead (simulating the draft is the only option), and you can't decide what you draft. They'll "patch it in at a later date." Also no simulation-watching.

Absolute BS. This game is woefully incomplete. The NHL 15 for the current gens, meanwhile, is nothing more than a roster update.

Haven't gotten to the draft yet. I've never built through the draft in EA's games so no biggie for me personally, but if manual pick is not there that's still crap of course. You've seen somewhere it'll be patched?
Also, no active simulation as in following the score, being able to jump in and play, etc. There's only quick sim.
But looking beyond that (I've watched 21 minutes now of the GM part 1 video) does it ever look sweet! Awesome menues, functions and options.
Edit: On BaP. No sim on bench sucks if the video guy has gotten things right. That was a genius new feature, getting the stats and ice time and everything right. That's a bummer. BaP is unplayable unless that's fixed.
Good and bad stuff. GM without simming and manually picking in draft still looks awesome (and it's not and have never tried to be a management game like Eastside or FM) but BaP without the on bench simulator does not appeal to me at all. That ruins that mode, actually.
