It's definitely draining faster; left the house at 5 with 88%, got home around 9 with 22%. No extraneous services (GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth), and I only used the phone to show our dinner companions about three photos.

That sounds like a battery issue, not software.

It's just odd that it only happened after the update.

I also had an issue pre-update where the NBC Sports Live Extra app just up an froze on me and left my phone INOP for about 45 minutes. (With a frozen video image) That was just a few days before I noticed the battery issue, and since then the phone has taken to freezing up at times.

The drastic test would be to do a factory reset, though Im not advocating that, to be clear.

When you drop your phone it will now break in half.

I did a reset on my Android tablet after we returned from Spain, and it worked wonders. But it would be considerably more cumbersome to reset the phone; so much more stuff tied to it than the tablet. I'm letting the charge drain down to zero today to see if that does any good; I've read that can sometimes help battery issues.

I've noticed some buggy lag now after a couple weeks of Kitkat but it could be due from having my S4 rooted and Titanium Backup freezing some of the garbage from Samsung and also deleting some of the Verizon bloat too.

One good thing though that makes it worth it is that using my TMobile SIM I no longer get an anvalid SIM error and it will auto switch from EDGE to HSPA to LTE in Global mode unrooted.

If it gets any worse I guess I should try a full restore but that would be very annoying, finally got my phone all set up exactly how I want it.

Not Droid specific but T-Mobile just made streaming from most audio sites (Pandora, iHeart, Spotify, Slacker) no longer count against your data plan. So if you don't have unlimited you could stream 24/7 and it will always be in 4G or LTE as long as you are in a high speed area even if you go through your alloted high speed data.

I just got the HTC One (M8). I like this phone so much more than the Samsung.

It's very fast, the sound is fantastic and the screen resolution is excellent. Camera is great as well.

I was picked to get an invite to buy the OnePlus One 64GB

http://oneplus.net/one" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's only $350 unlocked and works fully on AT&T and T-Mobile and pretty much almost everywhere in the world. Figure worst case is I can sell it at least what I paid for it on eBay if I don't like it since supply is so scarce right now.

While traveling yesterday - actually staying in a crummy Days Inn in Washington, PA - my Verizon S3 updated to Kitkat. Since I've been traveling, and 2 days spent roaming in Canada, I haven't had much time to play with it and see the differences. Regardless of changes, it's pretty cool that a now 2 year old phone is still getting official updates.

One change is that the flashlight app, once called "Assistive Lighting" is now called "Flashlight."

Also, does anyone know what the icon is next to the Sound Muted icon is? Image

NFC

Near field communication. Something with these tech tiles they have, but I have it turned off for now. Look it up, seems interesting, albeit not very useful yet.

Look for NFC under Settings > Connections.

It's not clear whether you can squirt any data to your Zune, however.

If you swipe your status bar down and click the four squares in the top right, the button will appear for you to turn off if you wish

Ah, nice. Thanks for the help, guys.

And sadly, the Zune is retired. I mostly use Google Play All Access on my S3, so no need to keep the Zune updated and charged. My kids don't even want it. :(

I ended up owning 4 different Zunes, and the last 64GB model was actually pretty good. It had wireless syncing before iPod, but because it was Microsoft, never got the traction or popularity when Apple added that feature a few years later. The last model was only a few steps behind the iPods out at that time, but by then it was too late - people were moving to smartphones and tablets.

The Zune client software interface was light years ahead of iTunes (which still looks like a spreadsheet)...and it looks a lot like Xbox One's GUI.

Upgraded my Droid 4 to a Galaxy S4.

Does anyone know how to change the settings so the screen doesn't turn on when I receive a message? I can't seem to find it at the moment.

I got an update on my phone, Galaxy S3. I just pretyt much know the basics. Anyway, after the update, now when I look on the internet, the screen is dim. Anything else, it's nice an bright.

Does anyone know why that is happening or how to change it.

go through the settings there is a setting for the screen type auto adjust based on what is being displayed. i believe that could be it. i'd also turn off auto brightness
