Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
Spezza is overpaid. Teams would rather spend $7 million in the free agent market, I guess, which makes sense. Kesler is a good cap hit with multiple years on his deal. He'd make more than $5 million on the open market, so teams would rather trade assets for Kesler than go to the FA market.

Benn at center? Yes. Nash at center, meaning Rick Nash? No, I do not recall that off hand.Idoit40fans wrote:The Benn at center thing was stupid. Like when they thought about making Nash a center. Did they ever even actually try that or just talk about it?

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
Yeah I knew Benn was playing center. I watched a good deal of their games last year, can't decide between them and the Avs as far as replacing the Kings as a west team to follow.
I don't recall it about Nash either which leads me to believe that they may have talked about it in the offseason and then abandoned it after early failure in september.

Fayne is an interesting pickup. I wonder how he'll do now that he's a little closer to the kitchen's heat. He might get exposed without the right partner...
Pouliot's deal, as I said in PR, is just a jokeoppotamus...what a bad player, contract.

Nevermind, the Boyle to Leafs deal is a false account. Seth Rorabaugh retweeted, didn't check source.

Milan Michalek, 3 years at 4 million. Pouliot, FIVE years at 4 million? Average 20-30 goals vs. average 10 goals... okay.
Hooray for Edmonton.

Josh Gorges wouldn't go to Toronto so now he gets traded to Buffalo for a 2nd rounder. enjoy golf in April and being able to book those tee times by Christmas.

Paul Stastny to the Blues, 4 year deal (7 per according to Sportsnet). (Source.)

I cannot believe the Blues have $10 million in capspace after signing Statstny and as stacked as their lineup is. They probably have the best constructed payroll in the NHL, off the top of my head. (Pittsburgh is good, too, to be sure, but there are fewer bargains than we used to have).
Jussi to Florida: four years of irrelevance, and $16 million.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
I'll miss Orpik. He was the longest tenured Penguin. He seemed to love the city, and he really blossomed into a good top four dman after several years struggling while the team was bad. I won't forget he also took a decent discount to sign his last contract. Good luck. Kind of. Screw the Caps.
