$1.2M less per year, and 1 year shorter than what he wanted from the NYR. Someone other than his agent must have finally talked to him.

I believe that Gaborik's 7-yr deal is worth around $4.9 M or $5 M a year. I am working to confirm.
7 years?
I feel like they might regret this.

Length is a little shaky for the Gaborik deal, but $4.9 mil for a guy who can score like he does, if he stays healthy?

I'm hesitant to call that a steal, but I'm not sure what else you could call it (again, if he figures how to stay healthy).

I don't think having Richards, Carter, Brown, Doughty, Gaborik and Quick signed that long is good for business.

No one can question his skill, but he's a total passenger.

He's 32, which means they avoid the dreaded 35+ contract. Not a bad play if you figure he's a guy that'll retire in his mid- to late-30s anyway.

Risky. I think it will look good for 2-3 years.

That team is built to win....and I feel that they will a few more times. They are also fun to watch.

@TSNBobMcKenzie - It's believed Kane-Toews initial ask of CHI on extension is around $12M/yr each. They'll end up lower but still could be $10M+ AAV players.

Great news for the Kings

Lecavalier on the block. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=1627 If the Flyers keep half his salary I would take his 20 goals for $2.25M cap hit.

Except if it prices Kopitar out of their range, and if that's the case, I'd say they have one more chance to win the cup 2015-2016. No one has been a threat to repeat since the Red Wings in 2009 and I don't expect that to change, i think a cup hangover for them is more likely than not.

Meh...he spends half the season on IR, has no defensive game and, really, gets most of his points on the powerplay. We already have James Neal for that (except half the season on IR, in Neal's case, that would be suspension).

Saw that. If they keep both, it will be like the Pens with Crosby and Malkin and they won't be able to spend the money for depth.

I'll take Crosby and Malkin at their salaries over Kane and Toes at $12 million/year every day.

Honest question, I know Toews is a good hockey player, and I know the market is getting crazy, but $12 million just seems insane to me. I mean, he is a career 25 goal, 60ish point player. Certainly a fine career, but I feel like that kind of money is reserved for the truly generational talents that are putting up in excess of a PPG. Am I wrong?

He's way more than points. But he's not a $12 mil player for sure...he's better than the points suggest, but he's not the best player in the league or anything...not close.
