I see Philly's side. Hartnell has two more years on his deal compared to Umberger.

Great trade for Philly. They both suck, Philly gets a free pick and saves $$ and years on the overpaid Hartnell. Don't be fooled, Hartnell is a waste.

Hartnell would be welcome on the third line by me for sure. He's add some toughness and snarl to Sutter's wing.

If they made that trade last spring then Columbus migth have won that series. It's a good move for the Blue Jackets.

Hartnell has the higher scoring pedigree. Umberger is probably a little better away from the puck, a little more versatile. Kind of a lateral deal. Flyers have less long-term money to deal with. Don't love the idea of playing against an Umberger-Couturier-Read line or some such. That seems annoying to deal with.

No more Hartnell down at least...Columbus is a heavy team, so it's a good fit there. If he can find chemistry with RyJo, he'll be good.

Odd deal...didn't see it coming at all...didn't even hear a whisper. Other than Umberger was being shopped heavily, which everyone knew...

One thing, and I say this often, Hartnell played 7 years as a Predator. I've watch a ton of hockey in my life and it easily covers Hartnell's entire career. For the life of me, when you go into my cranial file cabinet, all the interns up there cannot pull an image of Hartnell in a Preds jersey...not one. It's very odd.

Hartnell scored 20 goals and 52 points in 78 last year, which would've made him the 2nd highest scorer on CBJ behind Ryan Johansen.

I'd hardly consider that a "waste".

In comparison, Umberger had 18 goals and 34 points in 74 games. Hartnell immediately makes them better, and if he plays with Johansen and Jenner, I could see that line doing some major damage in the upcoming year.

Hell, even if he plays with one or more of Dubinsky, Anisimov, and Nathan Horton (given that Horton stays healthy), I could see him matching his output from this year.

Ooh...didn't even think of the possibility of Hartnell-AA-Nasty Nate...if you can get those two wingers banging and/or crashing and then find the puck back to AA, that's pretty nice right there. AA has an underrated skillset. Kind of gangly, but if he has body guards...

That photo is up there, but like all uncategorized Preds photos it is labelled under "Sergei Krivokrasov" - this will remain unchanged for the time being.

Today, I have a brutal sinus headache on top of a USA-POR hangover headache on top of having an "it's Monday" headache on top of being annoyed at the Pens' coaching search.

Wow, what a steal for the BJs. Hartnell is worth exponentially more than Umberger + a 4th!

At 38. With his injury history.

Hear anything more about Martin supposedly ready to sign that 2 year extension?

"Talk going around" doesn't mean much/anything, but the notion is interesting. By all observations, he loved it in Philly.

James Mirtle @mirtle · 1h
Talk going around is Scott Hartnell requested Flyers trade him. Has no-movement clause.

Yes and no for me. He's exhibited an uncanny ability to take penalties at the most inopportune moments and his conditioning/shape was questionable. But he went to the net and frustrated opponents.
