Re: Let's talk about music
when I think of the Chili Peppers, I think of two guitarists right away: John Frusciante and Hilel Slovak.FreeCandy44 wrote:Chili Peppers Fans....
Thoughts on One Hot Minute and Dave Navarro?
Even if Navarro was in the band as long as Hilel was, it still doesn't register when somebody says that Navarro was a member of RCHP. I can remember Arik Marshall being in the band for maybe 6 months and even Jesse Tobias being in the band for about 3 minutes, but Dave Navarro still doesn't register.
That's not hating on Navarro or anything. It's just when I hear his name, I instantly think Jane's Addiction.

RHCP from the eighties is how I like to remember them. They have lost the funk.

Re: Let's talk about music
The guy they have right now is a Frusciante disciple, so hey may turn out good. But Hilel in the 80s and Frusciante after that was gold. I love watching the SNL clip of Under The Bridge where John lost it.

Yes. I concur with viva la ben here, although I have good associations with the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik, too.viva la ben wrote:RHCP from the eighties is how I like to remember them. They have lost the funk.

Here is John Frusciante trying to ruin Under The Brudge on SNL. Personally...I dig this version so much better.

Re: Let's talk about music
Didn't Kiedis hit him in the head with a mic stand during the first song they played? Back to your question about Navarro, I'm not as much of a fan of his style compared to Frusciante. I liked a few songs on One Hot Minute but nothing as much as anything Frusciante did.

Re: Let's talk about music
I understand that RHCP roots are that 80s funk sounds, but By the Way is one of my favorite albums of the 2000s, and Stadium Arcadium was pretty good too. Live at Slane Castle is an outstanding live show(DVD) showing the By the Way era of the band.Lt. Dish wrote:Yes. Ambitious plans for Friday. Mr. Small's to see Screaming Females as the opener for whatever show is there and then down to Stage AE to see St. Vincent as headliner. Hopefully it works out.
