I recommend tracking these guys' record down if you're at all into 90's power pop/rock.

Re: Let's talk about music
I've been following Neil Young's Pono project for a while now, and it's now open for preorders. It's essentially a FLAC player coupled with a high definition music service. MP3s have 5% of the total sound, and Pono offers HD quality recordings up to 9216 kbps (192 kHz/24 bit). Young has been getting all of the major labels to completely remaster original recordings, so there should be a good collection when the service goes live. Check out the video at the Kickstarter site:

Pretty good collection of artists there commenting on the quality. But were they talking about the quality of the sound system in Neil's car? And as Rolling Stone editor Brian Hiatt said on Twitter last night, can Neil Young even hear the difference in quality with the damage done to his ears from 40+ years of performing some of the loudest concerts in history?![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
Are people going to re-purchase their music in this new format at $14-25 per album? I'm going to assume torrents will pop up eventually, but only if the demand is there...

I think it's kinda strange that NIN skipped Pittsburgh. As far as I know, Trent has played Pittsburgh on every NIN tour since Pretty Hate Machine. It looks like that the NA leg of the tour is all amphitheaters/outdoor venues. Maybe they'll pass through on a second leg at Stage AE.

He also played at the Graffiti, opening up for Skinny Puppy (in their first show outside of Cleveland).

Re: Let's talk about music
I saw NIN with A Perfect Circle at Starlake on the Fragile tour. They were good but I dug APC so much more. It is weird that Mercer's own Trent Reznor isnt playing here now that I think about it, I wouldve loved to see this show. Its the 20th anniv of Superunknown from Soundgarden and I believe the Downward Spiral is also 20. Soundgarden was so great at Stage AE last year, though Matt Cameron isnt playing with Soundgarden this summer.

Re: Let's talk about music
I saw them at Metropol during my senior year. We ended up getting stuck in Pittsburgh for the night because of the snow.

These guys were the opening act.

@FC44, not only are Superunknown and Downward Spiral both 20 years old, they were both released on the same day (3/8/94).

Re: Let's talk about music
Seth from Emptynetters tweeted that he got CEC to play this song yesterday:

I had forgotten about School of Fish completely. Good debut album, although it sounds a bit dated now. Sad to hear the lead singer/songwriter died suddenly of testicular cancer at age 32 back in 2000.

Re: Let's talk about music
New Metallica song, well work in progress that they debuted last night. I like it, riff wise at least. It could use some trimming down here and there. Solo needs cleaned up. Could probably get a real good 6:30 song or so out of the 8 minutes they have there.

I had no idea that Metallica covered Discharge (on the expanded Garage re-release). It makes sense:

"I run into parts where I don't have anything good to sing, and I just sing borderline clichés or things I hope no one is really listening to," Malkmus told Dean Wareham in a revealing interview with Salon published around the time of Mirror Traffic's release. "When that happens, I just think, well, it's like classic rock."

It's hard to tell how good the song is because the audio is complete and utter crap.

I think Face the Truth is great. I'd probably put that 2.Gaucho wrote:"I run into parts where I don't have anything good to sing, and I just sing borderline clichés or things I hope no one is really listening to," Malkmus told Dean Wareham in a revealing interview with Salon published around the time of Mirror Traffic's release.
