to be fair, 34 years ago it wasn't that they didn't know what to do. Tikhinov didn't believe in pulling the goalie for the extra attacker. he felt it wasn't "real hockey" if you did that. not that those Red Army teams needed to pull their goalie very often.

I hear KHL-NHL narrative for RUS failure. Fair enough, RUS with 9 non-NHLers. But FIN has 11 non-NHLers, many of whom (8) play in KHL.
