Re: Let's talk about music
When they rolled through on the Load tour.. that was like 97 I guess.. that was my first real concert. Still put on a helluva show(still do now too), but yeah would have loved to have seen them on a Puppets era or Justice Era tour. Just born a few years too late.the wicked child wrote:Wow. Would have been awesome to see. Only got to see them on the Load tour unfortunately. It was still a very good show, but there were definitely a few other songs I would have rather heard than some of the Load material.
The last time they came through here was in 04 on the St. Anger tour. I'm sure I've told the story before, but I was a member of Metclub at that point and actually won backstage passes to meet them before the show. Still one of the coolest moments in my life. They were all cool as **** and down to earth, even Lars. Lars is short as **** though. I've have pictures around here somewhere of that, I had just turned 21 back then .. I look like I'm 12 haha.

Factorial would probably get along very well with my best friend, who is the biggest KC fan in the world and likes to complain about having no-one to talk about Yes and Gentle Giant with. In fact, he complained about that very thing roughly an hour ago.
Say, Factorial, were you just sitting in my kitchen?

Some good Moog playing.
I always thought this cover was of acid melting on the tongue but wikipedia says:
The album cover has some innuendo in that it is made to look like a tongue licking an anus. However, when opened completely, it is actually a tongue licking a peach.

Proclamation was very good. The other thing sounded like an ice cream truck, but hey, we've all experimented and sometimes what was a novel idea, didn't come out as hoped. lolFactorial wrote:Absolutely no offense taken WK.Willie Kool wrote:

The original Roland module synth could not understand the attack of the pick, or bend of the string. A lot of players stopped trying. For us that enjoy the sound, we have Pat to thank for his part.

Re: Let's talk about music
Billy Bragg on the new Coen Brothers film:
I'm a big fan of the Coen Brothers and the subject matter - solo folksinger coming to terms with the fact that he's never really going to make it - struck a melancholy chord with me.
It brought back that desperate feeling that sometimes threatened to overwhelm me between the break up of Riff Raff and the success of 'Life's A Riot', the awful knowledge that this was probably my last chance to be the master of my own destiny.
It's a funny/sad film, beautifully shot and the frustration of a man swimming against the tide is achingly expressed by Oscar Isaac in the lead role, as the world he has constructed for himself in his head is crushed by reality at every turn.

It's a masterpiece. Also, Carey Mulligan is a great actress and has a great face.

Re: Let's talk about music
They started playing it live again right around the time they stopped being good. 2003-ish. I don't think it's coincidence. Thom yorke stopped being self obsessed at some point (a little after he started a family) and the music went down the crapper.tifosi77 wrote:Thom Yorke from Radiohead is like that about "Creep". He called it a 'fridge buzz', meaning little more than background noise. But he understands that fans want to hear it live. So they play it..... he just refuses to sing it. Which seems dooshy.Factorial wrote:I think he was in some way disgusted with that song and the success it brought to them. He was obviously not in the music business to be rich and famous. Much like that video I posted on Random Songs of Chumbawamba mocking their success by wearing "One Hit Wonder", etc emblazoned on their shirts while playing their hit song on The Tonight Show. Some on here might not understand it but there are many that don't want fame and fortune and I believe he was clearly one of those people.
(That was 10-12 years ago, he might be alright with it now)
The lesson for you kids out there - Unhappy bands are better bands.
