Why Buy out Vinny this year as opposed to next?

What if he went on a tear this year and they could have attempted to move him.

mikey287 wrote:Q1: No. They can use their second compliance buyout next season though, if he's healthy and they don't use both this offseason. This doesn't apply to Heatley specifically, as he's a UFA after this season.
Q2: No. That would bring on a grievance from the Union I suspect.

Answer: Just buyout Tom Gilbert for cap relief.
Thanks... Didn't realize this was his last year of his contract.

The combined buyouts of the contracts for Ilya Bryzgalov and Vincent Lecavalier are greater than the 2012-13 payrolls of 9 NHL teams.

I think there is a good rationale behind it. Take a year to see if AV can get offense out of him and if he can't, dump him next year.

Bang on. Note similarities between Richards and Henrik Sedin. Very good move by New York.

and if he does, you can always give him to the Flyers.
