Not sure I agree there. They will still field a team, have a coach, belong to a conference.shafnutz05 wrote:

Eh, they are going to be completely irrelevant for a decade or more.pfim wrote:Not sure I agree there. They will still field a team, have a coach, belong to a conference.shafnutz05 wrote:

Re: Jerry Sandusky Trial
It's not as bad as a multi-year death penalty, but most certainly worse than a one-year football ban.

That's really the only thing that I don't really get here. I thought that vacating wins was primarily involved when a distinct competitive advantage was allowed.columbia wrote:Vacating all of those wins...wow, would not have expected that.
I think that was more of an "F U" to Paterno, and I doubt they would have done it had he not been the all-time wins leader.

I edited my post, nothing about national television, but with these sanctions don't expect the networks to pick them up anytime soon.

LOL at punishing those that have nothing to do with what happened.

And if they received the death penalty and were expelled from the Big 10? they'd likely never get back there.shafnutz05 wrote:Eh, they are going to be completely irrelevant for a decade or more.pfim wrote:Not sure I agree there. Is it a guarantee they would have been expelled from the Big 10 had they received the death penalty? I'm honestly asking, I don't know.

I heard on the radio that the B10 may add on their own sanctions later today.

So when does Penn state sue and "win easily"?shafnutz05 wrote:$60 million fine
Banned from bowls for four years
Scholarships reduced from 25 to 15 for four years
All wins vacated from 1998-2011.
5 years probation.
Individual sanctions.

They don't. The university signed off on the punishment.King Sid the Great 87 wrote:So when does Penn state sue and "win easily"?shafnutz05 wrote:$60 million fine

Re: Jerry Sandusky Trial
I mean, I agree that a multi-year death penalty would have been destructive. But I'm having a hard time believing a one-season ban from football would be worse than the long-term nature of the sanctions that were handed down.
Rather than ripping off the Band-Aid and getting the intense pain right off the bat, they are slowly tearing it off and dragging it out over 5-10 years.

A quick look at wikipedia (a reliable source) indicates that the U lost like 31 scholarships over the span of a few years in the mid 90's. they were back winning national championships by the turn of the century.

lolololol I made it perfectly clear that the one big caveat was "unless Penn State signs off on the punishment". But congratulations, your hindsight is 20/20.King Sid the Great 87 wrote:So when does Penn state sue and "win easily"?

Isn't this going to work out to like 70 scholarships over four seasons? And PSU doesn't exactly have the allure that the U has or had.KennyTheKangaroo wrote:A quick look at wikipedia (a reliable source) indicates that the U lost like 31 scholarships over the span of a few years in the mid 90's. they were back winning national championships by the turn of the century.

This is likely where the TV/TV Revenue penalties are levied. No inside info, just my opinion.viva la ben wrote:I heard on the radio that the B10 may add on their own sanctions later today.

Re: Jerry Sandusky Trial
I know I asked this earlier, but can someone explain to me again the basis for vacating the wins? I thought it was only to address a competitive advantage?
I have no issue with the rest of the penalties if Penn State signed off on them. But I am having a difficult time understanding the point of vacating the wins other than "Haha, suck it Paterno!!".
