Anyone have any favorite Irish Reds? Other than just like the Smithwick's/Murphy's/etc?

I like the fact that you know all this stuff about beer and have tried and can comment on these beers relevantly and you're not yet 21. When I was 20 I was scrounging Hamms 36 packs and Colt 45 from people I sort of knew. Good for you man non condescendingly.

Good people drink good beer. I once heard some drunk hobo say "life's too short to drink bad beer". Really inspired me.

I had a "Black and Brew" and really enjoyed it....The coffee flavor punches through quite nicely.

If you like the coffee flavors try the Kona Pipeline Porter if you can still find it, or the Founders Breakfast Stout.

I went to the Total Wine outside of Wilmington, DE yesterday and picked up the following:

12 pack of Guinness
12 pack of Sam's Winter Lager
12 pack of Sam's Winter Classics (Contains Winter Lager, Black & Brew, Chocolate Bock, Holiday Porter, Old Fezziwig Ale, and Boston Lager)
6 pack of Harpoon Winter Warmer
6 pack of Southern Tier Old Man Winter
6 pack of Flying Fish Grand Cru Winter Reserve
1 Big bottle of Leffe Blond
Six pack of assorted winter beers.

Total Wine is amazing; too bad they don't sell liquor anymore.

Hmmm. What state are you in? Only a few of our stores don't carry liquor.

The Total Wine I go to definitely has liquor.

It differs by state. Maryland, although not under the Total Wine names, can sell liquor. Delaware can, as can Florida and Arizona and so on. Virginia cannot though, we can only sell beer and wine, the state controls the liquor with the ABC stores (they're losing money every year).


We're coming to Washington state, Texas, and hopefully Oregon very soon. Pennsylvania will see stores in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and central PA in the near future. The bill is in the stages of getting past to privatize liquor sales in PA. We're close, we haven't done business in PA since the old "Beer Worlds".

I've made my own ginger ale syrup before and it's nice that you can control the strength, in terms of how much club soda you add.

Out of all the beers in my short time, I've never had Shock Top. Have one in the fridge now getting nice and cold. Not expecting anything great, just some friends saying how it's good. They also think that Natural Light is an acceptable drink, so we'll see how this goes.

It's similar to Blue Moon, a little sweeter perhaps.

I finally have some time today that I think I'm going to go browse the bottle shop today and pick up some good holiday selections. What are some christmas favorites that people have that are available in PA? I know Sierra Nevada is a common favorite, but I'm not too huge a fan of SN in general. BUs are usually a bit much for me.

If I have any bigger get togethers I'll probably get a Sam's seasonal variety. I think their Chocolate Bock is pretty good and the Fezziwig is good.

Tried the Sam Adams Infinium champagne beer yesterday at Jiggle. Very smooth.

Delirium Noel is class.

Penn Brewery Noel Bock was good.

They have infinium? Might have to make a trip to the Iggle tonight.

Went out Tuesday night to Smokin' Joes and had a sample of Vertical Epic 11.11.11. Probably the oddest Epic they've made so far in the series. This one was based off of Anaheim Chile, but it wasn't overbearing. The 2 ounce sample wasn't bad, but I'm not sure if I could go through an entire 22 oz bottle without some help.

Shock Top wasn't too bad. I'd drink it occasionally down by the river during the summer.

The Utopia is more like a cognac than a beer. If there's ever a tasting session, it's worth trying. Is it worth the pricetag on the bottle? It's debatable. The "beer" itself is interesting, but it would take forever for me to go through a bottle.

The infinium is a combo effort between Sam Adams and (....going to google, because I'm not gonna pretend to know how to spell the name of the brewery....) Weihenstephan.

Based on the price listed in this article, either Boston has a cheaper price on their Sam Adams stuff or I got jobbed on the price at D's today.

MWB - Not a huge DFH fan, but Immort Ale is one of their best beers. Outside of Palo Santo Marron, it's probably my favorite.
