tsn in general has been way more skeptical of the pens staying since day 1. the local outlets have been far more positive.

That wasn't much of an interview actually. Rossi said that he got this information from his sources and that he gave them quite a few chances to go back on their word, but they didn't.

He also mentioned that he thinks with IOC getting all this publicity he thinks that there is probably a deal in the works in which the Pens would pay back the IOC over time as opposed to one lump sum.

Benz and McLaughlin said "So the Pens are staying here then?" Rossi replied with "I would be shocked if they didn't, but hey, what do I know?"

note: the "Hey what do I know" was said in somewhat of a joking manner.

I fgured it was that $10mil payment to IoC that has now come back to bite them ---

They could overpay for the hospital lot - Pens paid 8mil - say the State pays 11 mil - net gain 3mil

Instead of 8.5 up front payment for arena, make it 6 mil - net gain 2.5 mil

That covers over half that payment

Yes. Thanks Stoosh. I posted my request the same time you posted the summary.

So I guess it is just a waiting game for this to be signed off and to be announced. Hope it is tonight. Fingers still crossed.

I think it would be perfect for the Pens to announce it either today or tomorrow for the following reasons:

1) The Candian press is here, so they will hit up Canada and the US all in one.

2) Do it before this weekend before the Super Bowl, because that is what the media is going to be focused this weekend.

3) The Steeler coaching news is done and Steeler news should quite down for a little until Big Ben takes the "worlds biggest dump" or Fast Willie "stubs toe, news at 4, 5, 6, 11".

4) The Succos spring training doesn't start for two weeks, so that news will be quite.

5) Pitt BB is off until next week

6) They are the toast of the town right now with with their winnng streak.

Just me rambling.

Yes, but your ramble is completely correct. The Pens could not have asked for a better time to make an announcement.

Also on Sat. the game is on NBC...national....

You forgot about the major news story that Troy Polamalu legally had his name changed to Troy Polamalu.

But I agree that the timing would be great tonight.

which would clear up those issues...but what about bardens cut in parking and the hill's problem
From the Fontana quotes Barden's/Pens issues with parking and development are resolved [let's hope he's right]

In terms of Hill leaders wanting some input - good luck - that's up to Pens media relations and politicians giving press blurbs and meeting in town hall kind of things to make local leaders/residents feel like their voice is being heard - it's not like residents are going to get any parking residuals or anything - I don't see that as having an economic impact cuz residents won't be seeing any of the $ outside of possible new jobs through the development projects, etc. - to me that's more an issue of recognition of the residents and hearing them out

The game on Saturday is on FSN. The Pens vs Caps on the 18th is the National Game.

If the state doesnt want to pay for any of it, what makes you think they are going to cut costs in other areas to make up for it?

It doesn't matter what pot you take it from.

TSN and especially Darren Dregger have been extremely negative for the pens staying but it always had the slant of the team moving to Hamilton or at least hoping for that. Dregger has been pretty inaccurate in all of his "analysis" of the situation from all of his "sources".

Rossi, Conte and Belko are way more in touch with the situation than TSN but until it is all done any thing is possible

If the IOC thing is the hold up why not negotiate with them for the naming rights? Just knock $500K a year off the price for a 20 year contract? Funny thing would be IOC would get more recognition than Barden's casino because they'd be mentioned on national TV very often.

Yeah, IOC will want to get mentioned predominantly in a market where they have no financial stake.
