I think it's a deal they had to make, whether it was Hall or one of their other forwards. They have/had so much at the forward position and are dying in D....Hall is a good player, but this trade should definitely help Edmonton a lot.

Don't knock Shero drafting 3 players he drafted have there name on the cup and could have been a couple more. Murray Rust Maatta plus Wilson but he got injured and Sundqvist looks to be a 4th center maybe a 3rd.

How does trading the anchor of your top 6 and Connor McDavid's roommate help Edmonton? If they netted Subban or some equivalent value/performance in return, perhaps, but this trade is disruptive and risky.

How is Chiarelli a GM? If you look at his history in Boston and his short history in Edmonton it really does not make sense.

You know what's really funny to me about this move? All the negative media attention Hall has received over the past few years has just washed away and now people act like EDM just traded the best player in the league for bupkis.

Over the past few years I've somewhat regularly read the following:
-Hall has not developed into the player EDM has hoped in spite of his elite-level talent
-Hall is not a leader
-Oilers looking to move Hall

Now what do we hear?
-Oilers moved the fastest player in the game
-Oilers moved one of the top wingers in the game
-Moved a player who's yet to reach his potential

I'm not saying this wasn't a bad trade. I'm just saying this should all be kept in perspective. EDM wanted Lucic, plain and simple. You can't look at this as a 1-for-1 trade. You need to look at what the Oilers have done has a whole.
