Very cool info about his parents. Also, I believe Manny is the first or second NHL player ever with Indian heritage.

I went to a game in Columbus several years ago with a coworker who is 2nd generation Indian - it was his first NHL game. Sometime in the first period he said "hey, there's a player with an Indian last name out there". So I googled him for that info.

The cool thing is that we sat a few rows behind the goalie in a shootout game that went several rounds - ended of course, by Malhotra.

So... you get a doctorate in biochemistry and then stay at home to raise the kid?

It's more common than you may think when both parents have PhDs in the sciences. We call it the "two body problem". With a PhD in the sciences it's almost assured you're going to get a job somewhere, but for two people to get a job in the same location... that's where it gets tough. My wife and I will likely run into this problem in a year or two.
