why anyone should have expected ottawa to do anything for the past few years is beyond me. they haven't had the talent to compete for some time now. the fact that he got to the 2nd round of the playoffs a couple years ago should have earned him some serious brownie points.

Year 1 of a 3 year deal is an odd time to do it. I guess nothing should surprise me, but flushing millions down the drain on firing a coach you knew wasn't going to see the end of his deal makes me shake my head.

I'd say it has more to do with Steve Tambellini than Dallas Eakins or Craig MacTavish.

They've gone through how many coaches since they drafted Taylor Hall? 3? Even Pat Quinn had trouble getting something out of their roster prior to drafting Hall (which is why they got him in the first place).

It definitely seems more like a player issue than it does a coach issue there in Edmonton, but I don't think Dallas Eakins is the guy for that job. They need someone to start physically beating these guys, because they're terrible.
