Not sure what you want Orpik to do there. If Holtby didn't have the glove of a peewee, he would have made that save. Orpik played it pretty well.

Orpik and Carlson on the ice for all 4 even strength goals.

I would like to see orpik not allow all that gap and even so look a little better recovering than that. He looked pylon esque.

There was a neutral zone turnover, a pretty piss poor one to boot, on his side of the red line while he was the D breaking it out. There is literally no way to close the gap in that situation.

It wasn't as bad as everyone's saying, but it was startling to see him have no recovery speed whatsoever. He used to be such a good skater.

Ovechkin, believe it or not, actually went down in front of a shot to block it - and succeeded - in that game...stung him a bit...he was subsequently not selected in the shootout.
Trotz > Ovechkin.
Trotz > Ovechkin.

He caught out of position (and leaning in the wrong direction)...not sure if that's unique in the grand scheme of things for hockey.
It happens.

Are we going to ignore the fact that 92 can't catch a pass to save his life? I don't want to keep harping on this, but blaming Orpik on this goal is super childish and it seems like people just want to take shots at a Caps player.

Yeah, that .gif is actually sympathetic to Brooks. When Scott takes possession Brooks is leaning the opposite way and had just planted his feet. What are you going to do? If Holtby hadn't thrust his glove out of the way of the puck there it never would've even came up.

I think it's because it's John Scott, who might be one of the worst skaters in the league.meow wrote:Are we going to ignore the fact that 92 can't catch a pass to save his life? Orpik did get caught flat-footed, but his recovery and effort attempt to get to Scott....is there something I'm missing out of frame?

I don't think you can be caught flat footed when you're moving forward.

Re: Who saw caveman John Scott walk right around Brooks Orpi
Yeah, Orpik's joining the rush because he has anticipated a non-botched play ahead...he's going the opposite direction that Scott is heading...he knows who he is on the ice against, so he's in no hurry to do anything but just keep it outside, he's not going to get beat with speed and just let him shoot essentially...unfortunately for Orpik, it looks hilarious from that angle and Holtby gets snipped (was he the one that gave up the breakaway goal to Boogaard a couple years back...? Meh, perhaps not...) - not shown: Orpik comes and cross checks Andrew Desjardins in the back and into the net after the goal is scored as per usual; also not shown, John Scott's celebration face...

I thought with words like "walked" and "pylon" being thrown around the goal was going to look a lot worse. Meh.

Speaking of which: "Walked" is among my most disliked terms in all of sports.
