Post by brwi »

After 19-20 years as GM. Rumor has it that Ron Francis will be next GM.

Oh well, I guess Shero won't be able to fleece him any longer...Ronnie will be onto Ray's shenanigans, right?

It stays in the family in Carolina, always. They are probably the lead dog in country club memberships...one you're a Cane, you're always a Cane...

That said, all the best to Ronnie, I hope he does really well there. Very sharp hockey mind.

Rod Brindamour assistant (I have no idea if he's at that point already, off the top of my head)?

The only time I've ever seen the Stanley Cup in a social setting was in 2006. I was sitting in a bar in Atlantic Beach, NC and it walked in the front door. It went around the bar right next to us, my drunk friend reaching out and touching it, and then into a side room to a private party. Read in the paper the next day that one of the front office folks has a condo near Atlantic Beach and it was their day with the cup.

So, thank you for that memory, Mr. Rutherford. :thumb:

This will make Canes fans very happy.

Carolina has seemed to be the place where players that other teams don't really want anymore end up lately. They have some good players with a whole lot of blah around it. It was time for him to go. If Francis is the next GM he's got his hands full with some of the contracts they have with several years left on them.

They always seem to have a really weak D compared to any of the good/decent teams in the East.

Yes indeed. They have drafted studs in Faulk and Ryan Murphy, but they have needed help on the blueline with a couple of more rugged guys to fill out the other spots besides "offensive d-man" for several years. Putting in the Corvo's and Pitkanen's and signing Ron "I won't touch you, I swear" Hainsey doesn't cut it.

It will be interesting to see who he trades and doesn't trade this offseason. Lots of hard contracts to move on that club.

Francis recently fired the Canes' coaches. Here's the options:
‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 34s
Ulf Samuelsson, Kevin Dineen and Ed Olczyk will be amongst ex-teammates of CAR GM Ron Francis mentioned as potential coaching candidates.

Lolczyk. That would be hilarious.

Note the only assistant coach not let go was Rod Brind'Amour. A major part of the family.
