Just came across this on youtube. And if you didn't already know when you tuned in you could tell by the crowd in the backgrund of Jim McKay at the beginning of the telecast that the USA had prevailed. Oh, and the street cost of $150 per seat (regular cost was $65 I believe)...would have been the best buck and a half you ever spent.

You are into "correcting" aren't you. But in reality, if we're talking about sporting events in the 20th century, what country was more into sporting events than the USofA? It was always the country with the most participants in the Olympics than any other country.

Don't get so defensive, BEPF. This was a huge event for the USA, exclusively, given the timing and the political climate. But as far as greatest sporting event, ever, I would disagree. It is not even the greatest US Olympic sporting event. I would give that nod to Jesse Owens in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.

Ali-Frazier was expected, Miracle was unexpected - Does that give the nod to Miracle?
The only other "event" I'd say challenges it is Jesse Owens. But that was a series of events and not a single contest.

If BEPFs choice isn't absolutely correct, it's certainly in the discussion.
