That seemed to come out of nowhere. Oh well don't have to worry about facing him anymore.

HAHAHAHA! Man that really screws over the Devils. Now they have a bunch of cap space to use but all of the big names are off the market. I wonder if Jagr has suddenly placed the Devils on his list.

And the best part is the Devils still have to forfeit a #1 draft pick for trying to circumvent the cap when the signed him in the first place. Brilliant move NJ.

Pure sports terrorism?

But seriously, could he do that without royally ticking off the IIHF, the NHL and anyone else involved in international hockey?

How boring are they going to be now? At least Kovalchuk could add some excitement to a game.

Wait, so they spent all that money on Kovalchuk, lost Parise to free agency, only for him to retire.

Wasn't that contract heavily front-loaded?

To answer my own question, he made $6m the first two years and $11m last year. Was set to make roughly $11 until 2017-18.

This is pretty funny, though at this point I think the Devils are better off with the cap space. Square peg, round hole.

They aren't getting the cap space back thanks to the Luongo rule in the new CBA.

Losing that first round pick next year when without him they're probably a bottom 5 team is just outstanding.

They should. This says they'll get hit with 250k per until it expires.
