Yakupov imitates Theo Fleury celebration

Like it, or was it over the top?
I'm actually on the fence about it. It's the closing seconds of the game and he ties it up.
But it wasn't like it was his first career goal or like Edmonton was going for their first win of the season.

If the bs waived off goal hadn't happened it would have been over the top. As it was, the refs almost took the game away and he took it back, it was appropriate.

Over the top?
It was awesome after an awesome finishing few minutes of regulation.

Re: Yakupov imitates Theo Fleury celebration
There's no way that's over the top. What was that? his third NHL game? and he ties the game with 4.7 seconds to go? I would bellyslide across my carpet if that happened in a pens game.

who cares? he scored to goal, he celebrated, no big deal -- that being said, if I was a Kings fan I'm sure I'd be upset

Re: Yakupov imitates Theo Fleury celebration
I can't believe people are jammed up about this. Its not like he tied the game with 12 minutes left in the 2nd. It was basically a buzzer beater, right after the drama of it seeming like the Oil got screwed. A local sports guy here tweeted "act like you've been there before" Um...in the NHL, he's pretty much only been there once before

People seriously complain about this? Seriously? First NHL goal with 4 seconds left to tie the game. What is he supposed to do, just shrug it off and be called arrogant and smug?

Who is complaining about it? There hasn't been a single negative thing in this thread that i've noticed.

Didn't realize this is the only thread on the webz or that there's no media beside it.

Yeah, tough to figure out if its appropriate without the context.Idoit40fans wrote:If the bs waived off goal hadn't happened it would have been over the top. As it was, the refs almost took the game away and he took it back, it was appropriate.
Just glad to see a guy in Edmonton with something to cheer about.

An actual attempt at hockey related discussion, perhaps? You should try it sometime.Idoit40fans wrote:So what inspired the post here? Are there people complaining about it?

Re: Yakupov imitates Theo Fleury celebration
Wow, someone else acknowledged this. He's a huge ass without that context. I've been trying to figure out if anyone was watching the game to know what had happened. Maybe Scuderi screwing up needs to be ignored, even if he got away with it and really it was the refs who screwed up.Pitt87 wrote:Yeah, tough to figure out if its appropriate without the context.Idoit40fans wrote:If the bs waived off goal hadn't happened it would have been over the top. Whatever. Hockey players need to show a little more flair sometimes, I have nothing wrong with it. That will be on every Oilers highlight reel for a long time, similar to Morozov flashing the Penguin logo. I like when players show some excitement and emotion. Remember the Kovalchuk finger point? That made playing the Thrashers (the Thrashers!) a little more exciting and helps drive a storyline hockey needs to grow.

Re: Yakupov imitates Theo Fleury celebration
If people think Yakupov isn't allowed to celebrate, then none of them should be allowed to cheer for another goal.
It's not like he planned it a la Ovechkin and the hot stick.

it's a puck daddy article, too. good enough?
i liked it. i mean...it's not really my ideal celebration, but it makes things interesting. i also don't think rookies are obligated to show any reverence whatsoever to their opponents simply because of their experience.

The LA Kings, in their post-game interviews were less than happy about it. There are a few articles on the news wires about it as well.
I quite enjoyed the whole goal and celebration.

Kings were gifted another chance to win the game. Should have capitalized on it. They're mad the refs gave them back a lead and they still lost the game.

I have no issues with this. It was huge goal in a season where more than usual every point counts. This was awesome.
