Would this work in lieu of a lottery? Probably not with all the non-playoff teams, because a bubble team could kick the crap out of the bottom feeders. Maybe the bottom 4 could battle it out for the Crosby Cup, or the Ovechkin Orb, or the Yakupov Yak, or some other trophy that symbolizes their draft pick.
Losers bracket for draft picks? The KHL is trying it.

That's really just a terrible idea...where's that Office Space clip when the older guy tells everyone about his "Jump to Conclusions" mat...
Is there something wrong with the lottery that I'm not aware of? The union won't want its players playing extra meaningless games, the GMs won't want their players playing extra meaningless games...you had 82 games to figure out who finishes in the basement, you need 4 more games to divide Sub-Basement 1 from Sub-Basement 2...? Sounds pretty terrible...

It would have to really be in lieu of the lottery...aka last only moving down a max of one slot. The worst team could easily be trapped into never improving.
