The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed free agent goaltender Andrew Penner, it was announced today by General Manager Ray Shero.
Penner, 23, appeared in 40 games for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League during the 2005-06 season, posting a 20-12-1 record with a 3.25 goals against average and one shutout. He also appeared in three games with the Dayton Bombers of the East Coast Hockey League, finishing with a 1-2-0 record and a 3.68 goals against average.
The 6-2 and 205 pound netminder has appeared in 63 career games with the Crunch (AHL) since 2004, posting a 28-24-2 record with a 3.05 goals against average and two shutouts. Penner has a 22-37-3 record and 3.68 goals against average in 68 career games with Dayton (ECHL) since 2003.
The native of Scarborough, Ontario was originally signed as a free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets on September 17, 2001.
