This thread is about making food, not vomiting after looking at things online.

Does anyone have a good recipe for ham and lima bean soup? I'm looking for something that is relatively basic (as I want to make it from ingredients I already have), yet good.

My grandmother makes it. I never ate it though, never cared for it. I'm not sure shed be able to tell me a recipe but I hear her stuff is good.

Had a great beer over the weekend in Vegas; Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin. An oatmeal stout that's aged in bourbon barrels that smells and tastes strongly of espresso. I want to cook something to pair specifically with this beer.

Not a big coffee drinker, but I'm trying to think of flavors that go well with the brewed potable. Vanilla, cocoa, hazelnut, lactic stuff (milk, cream), and...... ???????

Initial inclination is to get those flavors into the dish via flavored liqueurs, but that's not set in stone yet. I want to create a flavor profile in my head before I decide on any techniques or even specific ingredients.

Cooks Illustrated is awesome. Both their magazine and cookbooks are frequently used in my kitchen.

Meh.... I subscribed to CI for a year and found it a little lacking. Seemed a little too basic, like once you're around them for a year or so you should be sufficiently advanced in your skills as to no longer need them. (which I found odd)
