I also sang is high school, but can't play the instrument and sing at the same time.

Also, slightly unrelated:

I can play a bit of bass, but I'm not amazing or anything. I can sing a bit, but same deal.

It is and lot of their music is creepy. They arose out of the break up of Throbbing Gristle. They were part of that Acid House scene in the UK with Psychic TV in the late '80's:

Another creepy band related to Coil is Current 93:

And Current 93 had ties to Death in June, who dabbled in some pretty creepy neo-fascism.....down to and including Totenkopf imagery on their record covers.

I should say that I saw Death in June somewhere in North Oakland circa 1997 and quite enjoyed it.
No idea if they actually buy into some the **** they seem to be selling and I don't really want to know.

As I understand it, that band Iceege gives off a somewhat creepy and similar vibe.

I think that (use powerful symbolism) is more schtick than anything else. The leader of Death in June has said: "I've an interest in all aspects of the Third Reich. It has had such a huge influence on the world, who could fail to be intrigued by it? However, I've still read more pages of Das Kapital than Mein Kampf!".

It's hard to tell. The Current 93 records have swastika images, which are obviously a very ancient Buddhist symbol and he does go by the name of David Tibet.

Either way, there's a fine line there....whether either are really crossing it, is difficult to tell.

Having said that, I definitely believe Boyd Rice is a Nazi.

He's more of a Satanist than a Nazi. :) But since I'm an atheist that doesn't scare me. :pop:

One final thought on this. Remember when these guys were accused of being Nazis:

DJ Aphrodite coming to Pittsburgh sometime in April. Can't find any info on where he's playing, prices, etc. Only thing I can find on his page is that he's playing in Pittsburgh on April 12th. I'll probably be the oldest one at the show aside from Aphro himself.

Almost every one-off show they've done in the last three years has sold out within minutes of the pre-sale opening. The dudes know how to play just enough to consistently draw insane crowds without releasing new material more than once every five years. PS: I got my tickets and will be driving up from NC.
So is Brand New a big deal? I totally missed them, but it as just announced that Man Man will be opening for that show. Frankly, I was hoping Man Man was the headliner when I saw this because I was not familiar with Brand new. So, this show is really sold out? Concert goers will be in for a treat with Man Man.

Anyone into Mark Kozelek/Sun Kil Moon? Sun Kil Moon's new album Benji is absolutely brilliant and quite moving.

They probably felt pretty good about themselves when 3 of them died within the next 18 months.
