Re: Let's talk about music
I don't blame you... there are maybe a few good songs total out of those first two albums they did... I certainly wouldn't have expected them to explode like they did.

Re: Let's talk about music
Awesomeness here... if you're into power metal or symphonic metal. These guys can freakin' play and sing.
Pathfinder is a Polish symphonic power metal band. As of 2012, the band has released two full-length albums. The band’s primary lyrical themes are epic fantasy, and its musical style has been described as consisting of ”sweeping keyboard orchestrations, chugging riffs, blinding guitar solos, frantic rhythms, and soaring vocals”.

G-damn bands like this should be playing at the Grammy's and getting the accolades. What do we get, Rhianna and Taylor? Ehhh.... same generic crap over and over. Metal bands are treated so much better in Europe and Japan.

Read the mayor of Macdougal street this past weekend. Of course all the music discourse was interesting, but I enjoyed his cultural commentary. The experience of being that kind of musician then was very interesting and also the neighborhood drama with the locals being responding to hipster gentrification.

Re: Let's talk about music
I went to a friends house to lay a guitar track for him on Friday and then again today (and I'll be back tomorrow to finish up). He's the singer from Stokley Rose, my old band. Our bassist apparently "finished" our album about a year ago and gave him the tracks. They are all mixed and edited. The only thing they are missing is the mastering. I've never heard them in this format before. I copied them to a USB and brought them back to work and listened to them at my desk.
Man...I'll toot my own horn all I want. We were REALLY EFFING GOOD....

Re: Let's talk about music
I really like Joe Satriani's body of work. Fairly large. But aside from a few special songs ("Summer Song", "Surfin' With the Alien", "Always With Me, Always With You", "Satch Boogie", etc.), most of it just sounds the same.
Not really a knock on Joe, because he can fly up and down the fretboard like no other, but it seems as though his "lesser" works all sound the same.
I also feel you could say this for a lot of the other well-known guitarists of his ilk (Stevie Vai, Joe Bonamassa, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc). If each of them didn't have their own particular sound/tone, it would be slightly hard to pick them out of a group.
