I found this while perusing Imgur/Reddit:

http://upchucky.org/TimeMachine.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pick any year from 1940-1999 and you can listen to 20-ish songs that were popular that year (I'm fairly certain it's not a Top 20 countdown deal).

Kind of fun to see how music progressed from Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" in 1940 all the way to Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" in 1999.

Watched the Levon Helm documentary 'Aint in it for my health' on Netflix. Highly recommend for fans of Levon and The Band in general. Follows him through the last ~5 years of his health, battling health and financial problems with his craft and hosting midnight rambles at his barn, with retrospectives back to his days with The Band, and his admiration/respect for the simple life. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall in his kitchen post-ramble. What a talent.

Just got (the only) albums by Chopper One and The Semantics.... now there's some good, lost mid-90s pop/rock.

Pat Metheny. The one guitar player that stuck with the guitar synth concept to produce a library of songs that, to me, have stood the test of time. I find myself going back every few months to enjoy 'To the end of the world.'

The original Roland module synth could not understand the attack of the pick, or bend of the string. A lot of players stopped trying. For us that enjoy the sound, we have Pat to thank for his part.

Rather perceptively, the man who headed up the Indianapolis investigation into Louie Louie, a prosecutor called LeRoy New, decided the record was filthy, but its garbled lyrics weren't. He thought there was something undeniably lascivious about the music – he later told the US writer Dave Marsh it was "an abomination of out-of-tune guitars, an overbearing jungle rhythm and clanging cymbals" – but the obscenity laws "just didn't reckon with dirty sounds".

Despite that, the FBI took up the case of Louie Louie in early Feburary, investigating the Kingsmen's single under a law prohibiting interstate transportation of obscene material. The Bureau was doubtless spurred on by a series of letters sent to the US attorney general, Robert Kennedy, from concerned parents across America, who seemed to have got wind of events in Indiana, but not New's conclusion. "Who do you turn to when your daughter brings home pornographic materials?" pleaded one aghast correspondent. "The lyrics are so filthy I cannot enclose them in this letter … We all know there is obscene materials available for those who seek it, but when they start sneaking this material in the guise of the latest teenage rock and roll hit record, these morons have gone too far. This land of ours is headed for an extreme state of moral degradation."

:thumb: I saw them at Richfield Coliseum in Buffalo, Nov '88, with basically the same setlist. It was an incredible show. So intense.

Wow. Would have been awesome to see. Only got to see them on the Load tour unfortunately. It was still a very good show, but there were definitely a few other songs I would have rather heard than some of the Load material.
