Definite possibility. I'm not sold on Richards' ability to keep up with his linemates, but that top 6 is Dirt McGirt.brwi wrote:Think I'd rather have:meow wrote:I think Stansy went to the team with the best top-6.

The guy there before Richards was Handzus...who couldn't keep up with Craig Adams...I think Richards will be a great fit there...

Wait...that's arbitration, and they gave him MORE than he was requesting? That can't be can it?

They avoided the arbitration decision by just coming to an agreement.

Yeah I am confused. They asked for 5.25 million a year, he asked for 8.5 a year, and instead of arbitration, they agreed to give him 9 a year for 8 years?!?!

Yeah the way this unfolded makes me wonder if he wanted shorter term and that was what separated them.

It's weird but I feel happy and sad for subban. Happy because he got a ton of money, sad because he probably won't live up to that deal and will get crucified for it. I mean, he is making what Crosby makes basically

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
I don't think it's that bad. I was expecting 8 x 8. How many real gamebreakers exist on the blueline that are better than him at their best? DD, EK, anyone else? I'm not sure...PK's best is tough to match in the league...obviously, he's gotta bring the ruckus, but you gotta pay to play...it's a superstar that can not only handle, but he embraces, the limelight and pressure of Montreal...total gamebreaker...so, what are you gonna do, let that walk out on you...?

Id defi itely rather have pk than karlsson. Doughty is probably the only defenseman id be comfortable giving that contract to.

Those lifetime contracts can be dangerous if you opt out.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
My issue with the Subban contract situation is that Montreal spent 4 hours arguing why he is only worth $5.25M, actually had the hearing and argued their position. Then within 24 hours sign him to a $9M contract.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
Weren't they arguing why he was only worth $5.25 million for one year in which he was an RFA? Its not hard to reconcile that contract with arguments in an arbitration hearing.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
I believe it's actually a law firm hired by the NHL that makes the case against the player. Not a single reasonable person believed 5.25M was a reasonable offer. It's just a tactic.Jim wrote:My issue with the Subban contract situation is that Montreal spent 4 hours arguing why he is only worth $5.25M, actually had the hearing and argued their position. Basically, the NHL has a goal to make arbitration as painful as possible for the player as a deterrent against it.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
I think PK's camp had them over a barrel. I bet they threatened that if PK took the arbitration award, he would walk as a UFA at the end of it no questions asked. Meaning, He would have gone to Toronto or Boston and made Montreal's seasons hell. Montreal just buckled and caved like a little girl.Antonio wrote:Yeah I am confused.
