True, but I feel like every team in the league would love to have Stump at 900k so if the Pens didn't talk to him then that's a bad play.Pitts wrote:You're assuming the Pens wanted to re-sign him. Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
I doubt Pens were much for offering more than a million just base on other signings.
He is going to get top 6 minutes and top PP time, most likely, in New York and a chance to cash in on that next summer if he performs. It's a better move than taking a hypothetical 1 million deal from Pens for 2nd PP minutes and more than likely bottom 6 minutes.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
Lee is an okay responsible forward, but not really a top 6 guy. He isn't a "hitter" and he isn't going to be a Selke nominee. One the offensive side he is a 15g 30pt guy. He had 1 season over 20 goals and actually took a pay cut that following summer. He can fill into the top 6 if you have some sort term injuries without hurting your team, but he is not a guy that you want to pencil in there as a starter.

That's a good deal. And talk about last minute. I'm pretty sure the arbiter was going to give his ruling today.
Even losing Stastny, they've got the best top 6 in the NHL. McGinn is the only guy punching above his weight, and they added Briere as a backup option.
Mcginn-Duchene-O"Reilly
Landeskog-Mackinnon-Iginla

I think Stansy went to the team with the best top-6.
Steen - Backes - Oshie
Schwartz - Stansy - Tarasenko

Crosby and Malkin could be playing with McDonald's hamburgers and we'd still have the best top 6 in the league.

Pens are going to pay Spaling more than twice that for something close to what you describe above, minus the marginal grit that Lee does provide.

That is a solid top 6, through and through. But I'd take the Avs 4th best fwd (Landeskog) over any of those guys except Backes.

I was thinking McDoubles. What they lack in offensive skill they make up for in being cheap...allows us to sign more expensive bottom 6 players.meow wrote:Like....Big Macs or just a couple quarter pounders?MalkinIsMyHomeboy wrote:Crosby and Malkin could be playing with McDonald's hamburgers and we'd still have the best top 6 in the league.

Dreger reporting that James Reimer was re-signed by the Leafs for 2 years, 2.3 per year.
There goes our replacement for Fleury.

Seeing some of the contracts being handed out, I wonder if the cap can possibly continue to go up enough to where there is not a crisis of some sort.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
We had that last year where the cap actually went down and we are still trying to recover now. Some teams will struggle but still be good like Pens, Hawks and other teams that have two great players and tied in max hit to them, other teams will always make bad decisions like the Leafs, Flyers, Caps, Oilers and other who just make stupid moves.the wicked child wrote:Seeing some of the contracts being handed out, I wonder if the cap can possibly continue to go up enough to where there is not a crisis of some sort.
There will be some teams on the edge that can take advantage of the market and get into position to win, Kings seem to be there, Montreal is another one.
