He seemed so promising coming over from Russia. That's what a bad attitude gets ya...mikey287 wrote:Isles place Kirill Kabanov on unconditional waivers to buyout his contract.
His replacement was already selected late in the first round just a couple weeks ago.

Yeah, a solid depth guy for the club who will be sorely missed. Many in the Lou were shocked upon hearing of his decision to depart.Penspal wrote:Yep, a big loss for sure. Well, Nashville's off-season is certainly lively.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Nashville become a real thorn in the west. Lav can show them how to attack, while relying on their discipline and defensive structure, not unlike Blysma post Therrien.

The big bug-a-boo for Nashville is how weak they've been down the middle since they've joined the NHL. Just tough to compete out there without these big heavy centers. They have no answer for them. Nashville and Columbus ought to swap conferences now, as they're gonna end up looking out of place in the current setup.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
Nashville is probably in trouble next year, imo.
Chicago is lock, St. Louis and Dallas improved, Colorado is questionable with loss of Statsny (and possibly ROR) and Minnesota could go either way.
That's not a lot of room for a team with a new coach (with a completely opposite system from the one prior) and players who are hard workers, but not necessarily the most talented in the NHL.
This lineup doesn't strike fear into any team in the league.
Line 1: Neal-Ribeiro-Wilson
Line 2: Stalberg-Roy-Smith
Line 3 Forsberg-Jarnkrok-Jokinen
Line 4: ?-Gaustad-?
Josi-Weber
Ekholm-Jones
Volchenkov-Ellis
Don't get me wrong, the Predators will score more goals next year, but they'll also give up a decent amount. They just won't be a better team for it. Just different.
No way does Neal get over 25 goals next year. Just don't see it.

Don't forget he's gonna get a lot more opportunity on the #1 PP unit this year in NSH. Might possibly be their triggerman along with Weber. If he plays close to a full season I'd be surprised if he doesn't get more than 25.

Neal could hit 25...especially getting some pp goals late in the third when they are out of games.

Better deal for Kulikov though, he must have played the KHL card again. If he could just pull it all together consistently, he'd be a really good player. When I saw him in juniors, I thought he'd be a steadier Eddy than he's shown. Some nights it's there, some nights it's just headshakingly bad...

900K for Stempniak? Wow... apparently with the Pens they were really handcuffed with the RFA that have yet to have signed that they weren't able to go after Stempniak.

Lee is from New York I believe and his wife is from NY Metro (she is the daughter (or some near-relation) to one of my college professors at Rutgers) so that may have influenced the decision quite a bit...

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
I doubt that a player, who just took a $1.85M pay cut, was turning down offers, just to play for the Rangers.
It's reasonable to assume that GMJR never offered him a deal.

Stump got that contract after a 20 goal 50 point season I believe. He never replicated the results. A paycut was due... Still that's a sharp cut.columbia wrote:I doubt that a player, who just took a $1.85M pay cut, was turning down offers, just to play for the Rangers.

Re: Non-Penguins Offseason Moves 2014
Yeah, he's clearly a top-9 forward in some fashion in this league. So, there's obviously other forces in play here. My guess is he was very specific about where he wanted to play and the money didn't matter to him that much...

Disappointing. I would imagine playing with 87 and 71 would be worth more than playing in NYC. oh well.

You're assuming the Pens wanted to re-sign him. There is no indication they were interested in bringing him back.MalkinIsMyHomeboy wrote:Disappointing. I would imagine playing with 87 and 71 would be worth more than playing in NYC. oh well.
