NHL Live had Ken Holland on the show. Per the GM himself, he said that Detroit has not offered Hossa any contract to this point. They need to wait to see the cap numbers before they do.

If it was the ''wolfpack'' it wouldn't be ''for life'' it would be ''4 EVER''!

If the Dead Wangs offer any contract to Hossa, it sure ain't gonna be "lucrative" like the Sun was reporting.

That won't be happening in Detroit, unless two or three players are moved. Detroit's not the type of team to accomodate a player like that. Hossa to VAN, Hossa to LA, Hossa to MTL. It won't be in Detroit.

I still have a feeling they are going to somehow make it work there.

6 million and 4 million is a big difference... That is kind of insulting to expect Hossa to stay for 4 million a year. 6 million is real reasonable, he should have taken the 7+ we offered him
I wonder if that 6mil is a Detroit-only contract and more like 7 or higher for any other teams. Sure don't see him taking the rumored 10yr/40mil Franzen-like deal.

Holland said that was made up. He said specifically that no offer had been made to Hossa.

Per Lebrun, teams are calling Detroit for Hossa's rights. Sounds like he's put a 48 hour negotiating timeline on the talks.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/ind ... run_pierre

"But obviously if it appears that we can't get anything done in the next 48 hours, then … you'd rather get something than nothing," Holland said. "So right now, I'm just in a holding pattern."

Also says Conks won't be brought back.

Flyers should have saved their Emery $ and signed Conks.

Almost seems like a reversal of fortune for him this year.
2008: Awesome playoffs, indecisive about where he wants to play, but has an eager GM with an open wallet.
2009: Crappy playoffs, very open about wanting to stay a Wing, but has a wary GM with a guarded wallet.

Reality starting to seep in. From the start, one rumor that was definitely accurate is that they only way the Wings were going to be able to sign Hossa is if he accepted the same/very similar deal as Franzen. Whether Hossa scored 20 goals in the SCF or zero, they simply don't have cap room and not an easy way to free up any. Other teams looking to unload players for little solely for the reason of cap space is another factor limiting Detroit right now.

Hossa defied conventional wisdom by taking a one year deal at age 29 when he could have got more money and many years. I don't see him leaving a lot of money on the table a second time like that.

With the Flyers, anything goofy is a distinct possibility. Hasek? Holmgren on line 1 for you. Since Roy doesn't want to be GM of the Avs, hey, he must want to come out of retirement and play for the Flyers and cheap too!!! JS Aubin, come on down!

With Luongo presenting at the draft and talks of a long-term extension going on now, Corey Schneider of the Canucks could suddenly interest a few teams, especially the Flyers.
