Report is Detroit is offering him a lucrative long-term contract. Not sure how "lucrative" and not that it matters to us, but I don't know why Detroit would want to keep him, I guess unless it's cheap. They won the Cup without him and could use that money elsewhere. Look what it did for us. :thumb:

Love this quote:
The Detroit Red Wings are waiting for an answer from winger Marian Hossa.

Enjoy that wait!

At the end of the column, there's this:
The belief is former Minny coach Jacques Lemaire is going to return behind the New Jersey bench to replace Brent Sutter

I'm not buying that one. It's Bruce Garrioch, so 99 out of 100 times it will be nowhere close to accurate.

It is scary how similar to the Hossa situation in Detroit has paralleled the Penguins' situation last year. I've seen this act before. Hossa will turn down Detroit and he's going to Vancouver, Los Angeles, or Montreal.

I'll believe he'll end up going to the team that just beat them in the finals...

I see Hossa, either staying with Detroit or signing with Vanc. Mont. Kings as well.

Detroit can't be offering Hossa much. A conservative estimate puts them around $52 million for a roster of 11 forwards, six defensemen, and two goalies. I left off Lilja, who makes over $1 million, since he had bad concussion problems and probably will be hidden on the IR. So either they're offering Hossa about $4.5 million a year, or they plan on dumping salary to make room for him. Personally, I don't know why they'd want to go through all that to retain him, especially with the threat of the cap going down next year, given the way he coasted through the playoffs when he supposedly wanted to win that Cup so very badly. They don't need him. Let a team like Montreal waste the money on that loser.

If the Caps make a run at HOssa, we could see HOssa to TED.
