No, Arnold escaped to the British lines, and became a general in the British Army. He relocated to London after the war.DelPen wrote:My history is fuzzy. Did benedict arnold get hanged? If he did there has to be some etching of the event. Photoshop this putz onto it. What an idiot he turned out to be. It's one thing to pick the wrongg team but to pretty muich not show ip for the playoffs was pathetic.

Arnold switched sides because the British had a better team and were poised to win the next war.

Re: Hossa to DET
I mean to say the Wings fans are pissed about his performance, and Penguins fans were pissed about the way he bailed. It's funny, for a guy that doesn't like the spotlight (which I think is true) -- he sure has managed to generate attention and piss a lot of people off.Steve wrote:I don't think we were that pissed though after the playoffs? (or were we?). I thought he played well last season.Kaizer wrote:precisely.littlemoonboot wrote:Lurked some of the Detroit boards -- the Wings fans are just as pissed at him as we were almost a year ago.
In the finals, I'd have to say that the Pens were the worst possible matchup for him. Someone on NHL network made a good point that he's never done well when the spotlight is on him - and normally, it wouldn't be with that lineup - but it was against the Pens.

If he wasn't so misleading I really would actually feel more sorry for him. I kind of wonder what our cup chances would have been had he stayed. His departure was able to free up money for some depth and players that hit us the jackpot.

How great would it be for SNICKERS to have one of their "need to get away for a while?" commercials showing Hossa on the ice as the final horn blew?

Re: Hossa to DET
HOSSA goes to Detroit, Stanley Cup goes to Pens. Fair deal in the end. Maybe the best contract never signed in Pens history.

Oh snap, don't know where this thread came from, but while it's here, it needs some really good, solid photos for our epic storybook ending. We could not have asked for much of a better ending. It's a great day for hockey.

Aww.....look, dude, I'm sorry man, what else was I supposed to do? On top of last year, they've been dogging me about World Juniors for five years, man. I just couldn't take it anymore.
(Meanwhile, Satan's in the background giggling, "Good thing I gave Shero a call after HE bailed! I think I'll send him a fruit basket!")

Re: Hossa to DET
I think it's about to be a Hossa to Somewhere Else thread in NPR. Kevin Allen is reporting that the Wings won't re-up Hossa unless he takes a Franzen-like deal and I don't see Hossa giving up that much money. Franzen is about a 4mil cap hit with his salary at 5mil the next few years. I can't see Hossa sticking around for that. The "sign with Detroit to win Stanley cup" gambit didn't work, the fans are on his back, he's a little past his peak as a player in terms of age....time for a big contract elsewhere.
