i guess you could...if your able to deflect suspicion at this point in the game i could kind of see a general acceptance of you as a villager, and then if you actually were a mafia person you could manipulate the village for a couple of rounds.

I was thinking the same thing. He may very well be telling the truth, but if he's not and gets through with that defense people may forget about him for a bit.

I'd go that route too. If people are suspicious, vote me out. It will be better for the village in the long run. You won't have to keep second guessing, and you can focus then on others that can be in the mafia.
