I'm not a Yeo fan, and I do think his work with the PP is inexcusable, but it's not as much his fault as it's made out to be. It's really not his fault that all of the personnel he has to work with are excessive passers. Nor is it his fault that there isn't anyone on the roster with the size/hands to be an effective screen in front of the net. And, perhaps most importantly, Mike Yeo did not dislocate the arm of the best PP quarterback in hockey. It just didn't happen. Should the power play be more effective than it is? Yes. Is some of that his fault? Undoubtedly. But does an equal amount of the blame attributable to the players and the GM? Yes.
I completely agree that the players should say to themselves, hey this isn't working, lets try something new. But I also think Yeo needs to develop some new strategies to give them a kick in the pants. But yeah, execellent point. It is as much the players fault as it is Yeo's.

It doesn't matter who the coachin in charge of the PP is. If Crosby wants to pass, he will pass. If Whitney wants to let a puck slip past at the point, he won't stop it. You can not force these guys to do what they are supposed to.

Now, the passive PK... that is another thing...

I'm sure Ray Shero will take this petition in to account when and if something happens.

I don't want to "fire" anybody, the guy has a family.

I do think the PP is not working obviously, so who knows if it will happen.

I am in no way a Mike Yeo fan but I'm not sure what people expect/want him to do. He could set up the best power play ever but he can't go out on the ice and make the players do what they're supposed to do.

There is the argument, of course, that he should then bench the players that don't follow the plan but I can only imagine the screaming & hair pulling that would happen around here if he actually benched Crosby or Malkin.

14 people signed up in a couple hours...not bad

...only 22 more people sign and that's how many PP goals the Pens have in 48 games :shock:

...btw...the islanders have a better PP currently at 17.3.%....that's a sad story :(

i wouldn't go as far as firing yeo. maybe bring in another coach as a powerplay specialist or something. maybe that would help

Samsdog wrote:Like I said, I'm not saying he doesn't share some of the blame. It seems that everyone thinks its a magic fix, and it's not. Will it help? I can't say with any degree of certainty that it wouldn't, since, as I stated in my original post (but everyone seems content to ignore), his work thus far has been inexcusable. If you go back and actually read the point I made, I only said that the problem is also on the shoulders of the players and the GM. It would probably be good if you actually argued the point that I made instead of the one you want to put in my mouth.

Once again, for simplicity's sake:

Yeo = not good
Personnel management= not good
Player focus = not good
Injuries = devastating
Firing = only addressing part of the problem.
I posted more to this in another thread as well. I don't want to dig it up, but people aren't even looking at the intricacies that go into scouting teams. Yeo does have to bear some of the blame, but players also have to learn to change their tendencies. After 2+ years, teams know what Sid and Malkin are most likely going to do in certain situations with the puck. They have to be less predictable. Yeo has to put them in a positions to be less predictable of course.

Just based on what I see each game, I don't think a new PP coach would really change much other than the new guy would of course change the set up. But the players have to change their tendencies. And they have to get shots on net... some of them are missing the net completely on a pretty regular basis. Yeo didn't tell them to do that.

Seems too many people totally excuse the players and put all the blame on the coach...

Not to be all over you, but I hope this was intended to be a joke right?! ...Yeo's only job is the special teams...if we brought another coach for the PP, that would leave Yeo with the sole responsibility of handing out towels and popstickles during the dreaded PP while everyone stands around on the ice waiting for a pass instead of keeping their feet moving, or Sid and Malkin play 2.15 shifts on a 2 minute PP...

30 supporters....keep it coming

Only 6 away from matchin the 36 PP goals the pens have this season :shock:

One other stat that stood out to me is that the Pens are 3rd in the league in getting PP opportunities...

...a total of 216 in 48 games which averages to be 4.5 penalties per game...

that is a fair share of chances to not be converting at least 1 of those...which is also a huge reason the Pens are not even making it into OT anymore and getting those extra points they were last season...

I have a question for you, FuturePens. (Or rather, questions.)

In all seriousness, what do you want Yeo to do? What do you think he needs to change? What is the problem with the Pens' power play?

I know there is a lot wrong with the team right now...but i rather make a minor coaching change before the deadline instead of some major player move...

...I am a huge huge fan... I have not missed a game since I came overseas in 1999 and became a fan during the 2001 run we had...while we had Kovi, Lang and co. ...I have DVR'ed many games this year and even re watched the losses we had...and quiet frankly...I can recall at least 5 games we had this season where we lost a close game and could not convert on a lengthy 5 vs 3 ...or we had 5-8 PP chances throughout the game....

Get real..

1. We are tied for the 22nd PP ...with the Islanders having a better % then we do.
2. We have the 23rd ranked PK... and we gave up 9 short handed goals which is 3rd worst in the league
3. We have had 216 PP chances this year...which is the 3rd most in the league

...anyone that thinks that Mike Yeo has nothing to do with this is nuts!!! A YEO replacement is the first step in improving this team...he' is "A" reason we have 50 points right now instead of potential 55-60....

ps. thank you for signing the petition.
