If Babcock stated that ''you should come to Detroit'' to Hossa he isn't far behind in that regard. I agree with you though.
Why? Hossa's a great player who happens to be a free agent, why wouldn't any coach want him to be on their team?

Because at the time he did so he WASN'T a UFA! Again, that's considered Tampering. Stating that he's a good player and suggesting to him he should play for Detroit after game seven are two entirely different things.

1. What's the record for the longest thread at LGP? How many pages?

2. I can't believe this thing won't die. About Marian Hossa, of all people.

I believe a few gameday threads were over 60 pages.

Hossa never had ties to pittsburgh & that is fine... so I feel no remorse
in hoping Hossa fails and disrrupts the camelot that is the red wings.

Haha, so let me get this straight. If Pavel Datsyuk skates up to Sidney Crosby before the faceoff of a game and says, "Hey, you're pretty good. Come play for us".

That's tampering?

No. It isn't.

Tampering assumes negotiation. I doubt Babcock offered him a contract in the hand shake line.

What you didn't notice was the rolled up piece of paper that was transfered during the handshake.

I'll agree with this.

And I wasn't even angry that he signed elsewhere, just disgusted that he chose Detroit [considering the circumstances...and that I've never liked the Wings].

This thread makes me oscillate between feelings of mild disgust, anger, and sheer amusement. I'm not sure if I want it deleted now or not.

Technically it is. If you ever hear RS talk about a player from an opposing team, he's very careful as to what he says because of the tampering rule. You can acknowledge a players talented but to remotely suggest you should come play with ''us'' is something that shouldn't occur until july first. It's definitely an unethical tactic to say the least.

Players talking amongst themselves is one thing, an opposing coach saying something of this nature from the organization who just beat you in the cup finals is quite another. ''Why don't you come to Detroit'' yea thats definitely a negotiation tactic. It makes it clear to Hossa that the Wings would likely offer him a contract if he awaits UFA. If nothing else it plants a seed which again, shouldn't happen.

I couldn't quote the rule, but I think you might have more of a case if you say that it is tampering, in spirit, if not technically.

As someone above me said, it MAY be tampering in spirit.

However, technically, it isn't.

Point blank. Period.

I've stayed out of this till now, Jesse he is a member of the Wings Management team, the head coach. It's tampering aka the Brett Favre Minn Vikings phone calls. IF true, and that's a big IF.
