If a 2nd and a 5th with no retention, this is a big W in my book. Get the malcontent out of here, save $5M, add more future draft assets

Just checked, the Rangers don't have a 2nd round pick until 27. Guessing that's the pick we are getting. Rebuild!
Awesome.
We need to wait for confirmation. I saw that at first, but if you dig in on CapFriendly, the 2025 and 2026 2nd were involved in the same deal. Rangers dealt Patrik Nemeth contract to Arizona, and send a conditional 2nd rounder with him. Arizona had the choice of choosing which year they wanted the pick. According to CapFriendly, Utah/Arizona took the 2026 pick.

So Rangers had 2025 and 2027 2nd round picks available. My guess is it's the 2025 2nd that is coming to us.

$1.25mill. Still gives us some solid cap relief and a future asset. Good deal.

No need to wait... confirmed by the Penguins above, and also on TSN... it's a 2027 2nd.

edit... and the 2025 5th is conditional.

Cap Friendly is saying we got the 2027 2nd rounder. The 5th rounder is for 2025, and we get the lower (not sure if lower is better or worse here) of NYR or MIN 5th rounders that Rangers own.

We have $6.72M left with this lineup so far:

X - Crosby - Rust
Bunting - Geno - Puustinen
DOC - Hayes - Rakkell
Accari - Eller - FA
Extra - Pulljavri

We need a top six winger.

All the makings for a top 7 pick next year.

Someone posted that the Penguins roster was showing Beauvillier on the roster, along with some AHL players D Nate Clurman, C Jimmy Huntington, LW Bokondji Imama

So, let's see if any of those players get announced in the next 24 hours.

That 2027 draft pick player is probably 15 years old right now.

This isn’t horrible even with 25% retained as long as that savings is used for something not **** stupid.

I personally disagree....we shall see but they could have held onto him and gotten a 1st or 2nd at the deadline...If they use the savings to sign Skinner (which is being speculated by the way), it will be awful X 1000

There is no way in any realm that they could get a 1st rounder for Smith. Like, in any scenario.

Yeah have to agree. A 2 and a 5 is more than I think we could expect in most cases except for the fact that they are like a decade away.

Caps are certainly not rebuilding. They have been very aggressive
