I would prefer Edstrom, Dorofeyev and 1st pick 2024..
What do you think the Pens will do with Jake by the trade deadline

Re: What do you think the Pens will do with Jake by the trade deadline
Well, if that happens, I'll be one disappointed Penguin fan. Anything they have prospect wise is either several years from POTENTIALLY reaching the NHL, or a high end 3rd liner or low end top 6 guy. I just don't see a fit there. I really hope there isn't some scrub prospect there that someone in the Penguins organization just loves, so they target that team.
From the Canucks standpoint, I saw Rick Dhaliwal reportedly saying something to the effect that it was likely going to take Lekkerimaki or Willander to make a deal for Guentzel, that Vancouver didn't want to part with either, and that Podkolzin plus wasn't going to be enough to get it done. Other teams have deeper prospect pools and may be able to offer something better.
It at least sounds like Dubas is aiming for a top 2 prospect from teams.

Maybe they'll give us a 24, 25 and 26 first....

If Dubas trades Jake, I think he has to nail it on the return with at least one young guy panning out to be a really good player for the Pens. I agree that the Vegas prospect pool does not look favorable for us.

EDM, VAN, and LA probably are the 3 best options right now. And, I haven't heard DAL in the conversation, but if Dubas was able to get Stankoven I'd be ecstatic.

Doesn't sound like it, because Vegas doesn't have much in the way of quality prospects or NHL ready players, IMO.

Yes, that would be totally awesome. I don't think it is extremely far fetched. Jake may be well worth 10M+, but if teams don't have that money or don't make that offer, and Penguins have a 9M offer out on the the table...I could see Jake turning around and coming back to us. Long shot, but not far fetched.

My sarcasm/humor detector is turned off at the trade deadline. All we need now is Eklund saying Jake to Vegas is a done deal and we are safe.Skatingpen wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 3:14 pm
That was my poor attempt at a joke. Trading away Jake to the worst possible team interested…..

I think we all need to temper our expectations on the trade return for Jake. They are trading him as a pure rental, which obviously decreases the return. Listen I hope Dubas is able to get a haul for him but I have feeling its going to be 1 top prospect and 2 or 3 3rd line/3rd D pair type prospects. I am really hoping for Vancouver, I just think JR can be made to overpay.

If I am Dubas, I am not letting Jake touch the ice even to practice until this thing is done he should be in bubble wrap. No point otherwise.

My gut tells me Vegas. They seem to always get the players they want.

Listening to all the Canucks fans hate on the potential cost for Jake has me hoping he goes somewhere else out west and I can route for Jake hat tricks to knock Vancouver out. You gotta pay to play. The Pens did for years.

Re: What do you think the Pens will do with Jake by the trade deadline
I honestly hope it's Vegas, I would take a lesser return and move him to a cap strapped team in hopes the Pens can sign him in the summer.. I guess Vancouver fits that criteria too with JT Miller and Pettersson signeddark_forces wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 3:35 pm My gut tells me Vegas. They seem to always get the players they want.

Re: What do you think the Pens will do with Jake by the trade deadline
I'm not sure that trading Guentzel as a rental vs. trading Guentzel signed to a long-term deal lowers his value. The Pens are clearly wary of giving him a huge deal. Why would a true contender want to take on, say, an 8 year $72 million contract? I'm sure it'd be ideal if he had another year or two on his current deal, but I could see teams preferring him as a rental instead of signed into his late 30s.

If so, I just hope it's not for 7-8 years in length. Max I'd do is 5.FLPensFan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 3:11 pmYes, that would be totally awesome. I don't think it is extremely far fetched. This. No more 10 year full nmc contracts for everyone.

Re: What do you think the Pens will do with Jake by the trade deadline
About that tweet saying Pens might trade Jake by tomorrow evening - Dubas better not be selling short here! I know we are all eager and excited to see what happens, but Dubas needs to play this Guentzel deal until the deadline! He needs to make teams sweat! No reason to move Jake before the deadline Friday.
