new announcers

Post by johnnyzed »

Hey. I've read some didn't like Mearsy and Errey
But for me. IMHO I loved the exchange between them especially since errey was a penguin
The new guy just seems flat to me and there doesn't seem like the new color guy just repeats what getzoff says where errey could add history and could just go off on the history and what this guy did vs this guy

Then potash would come in with a little flavor

So far I ain't heard potash adding his input

I know they got bought out

Maybe I'm just a 50 year old that doesn't like change

But this new change from fenway ain't doing it for me

Sorry if I'm repeating another post but I searched and couldn't find anyone else who doesn't like these new announcers

Bring back mearsy and errey for Christ's sake

Where is Mario?
You can't tell me he didn't have any juice to say they were staying with the same call duo of Mears errey?

Eh. It's only 8 games into the season Maybe I just gotta give it a chance

Fully agree.
I'm not attached to Mears. He is smooth and professional.
But Errey has been superb over the many years. Eloquent, insightful, and full Penguin legend Cup-winning cred..No understanding what the problem was.
No way Colby is an improvement. Rupp was good tonight. Getzlof (sp?) is fine.
Sad for me. Errey was a nice guy the one time I met him.
All the best, Bob (same name too :D

Oh, yeah, nice win by the Pens.

Mario has not been involved with the team at all over the last year. If you want to believe the rumors, he had a big falling out with FSG. There was a minority owner of the team who sued over the Lemieux/Burkle sale to FSG. Lemieux and Burkle picked up the tab on the legal fees for that issue, and were under the impression they would be compensated with a small increase in their stake in the team for doing so. That didn't happen.

Since that time, I believe Malkin's 1000th game last season was the last time Lemieux has attended a game.

Potash replaced Rob King in the studio so he won't be adding any input. Mears is doing radio with Bourque so he's working, just not the TV side. Errey got shafted big time. I can say, without a doubt, his firing was the worst thing Pens SN did. He should, at the very least, be doing between the benches reporting.

The thing I can't figure out, all they did was shuffle a bunch of cards, but fired ONE GUY. I wasn't the biggest Errey fan, but what did he do to be the only one let go?

Also, Potash looks so out of place in his new role and I'm not sure he likes it. It seems they've replaced him with the new standard good looking female for ice-level commentary. I'm not knocking Haley's credentials at all, but Potash had a great gimmick and a fantastic relationship with the players. Haley just seems so basic now.

I thought I read that Potash and Hailey would occasionally swap duties?

Still waiting for Bourque on TV.

I think he did one or two of the first couple games. Seems he's been on radio since.

I didn't think Mears and Errey had good chemistry.

I've liked Getzoff better than Mears since he started. I like Mears better as an analyst.

Potash has been neutered! Not liking that at all!
• Tonight is the Penguins' Halloween game. Sad to share that Dan Potash won't be dressing up in his role as studio analyst. His call. He said he might wear a fun ugly sweater for the Christmas game.

I'm slightly younger than you but I miss Errey on the broadcast. He was definitely a goofball (to put it mildly), but he knows the game and he added all sorts of much-needed levity over the years. How else would we know to drink the water?

I heard that the team wanted to keep them but they got tired of trying to shine a positive spin on this old tired team that underachieved year after year after year. I heard they said F-it and quit. LOL FIRE SULLY!!!!!
