Zadina clears waivers. Very strange. Would think Chicago or Arizona would take a shot.

The Red Wings have put Filip “Funky Cold” Zadina on waivers.
Gibson's agent KO Sports issued a press release at what they said was asked for by Gibson that totally denies the Seravalli report and rips him a new one for a "false, unjust and inflammatory report" and that Seravalli never spoke with Gibson to confirm and that Gibson has never said anything like that anyone.

I think I believe the agent at this point over Seravalli. The timing of Gibson waiting until after July 1st to suddenly issue an ultimatum to trade me now and I'll never play for you again didn't make much sense at all.
It's posted in one of the other threads, but Gibson's agent Kurt Overhardt and Frank Seravalli have had issues in the past. About 3 years ago, Seravalli tweeted that one of Overhardt's agents was leaving his firm to take a role with the Arizona Coyotes. Overhardt tweeted something similar to what he did about Gibson...saying Seravalli was making false claims. Seravalli then linked to the official release on the Arizona Coyotes website.

Seravalli retweeted that old conversation saying, you remember the last time you came at me saying my reporting was false?

https://twitter.com/frank_seravalli/sta ... 6951706625

And I saw something early this morning that Gibson directly refuted that he said it, saying he never said that he'd played his last game, but he nor Overhardt refuted claims that a trade was requested.
Saw that back and forth between Seravalli and Overhardt on Twitter. I noticed it was one week from the time Seravalli said the agent had taken the Yotes job until an official announcement so maybe both Seravalli and Overhardt were being somewhat truthful in that situation and the agent hadn't actually informed KO sports he was accepting the Coyotes job yet.

I'd say Gibson probably had already requested a trade before July 1 and also never made the comment that Seravalli states he did.

Tarasenko has hired JP Barry and Pat Brisson as his agents. There were a lot of rumors he was about to sign in Carolina, then there was a shift towards Ottawa.

At this time, this should assume Tarasenko has no contract with any team. One statement I saw was, Tarasenko likely saw the money someone like Orlov had received and thought he should be doing better.

Maybe the Wings would be interested in a Granlund for Zadina swap. They have the space and we would gain about 3M, could then take that and maybe get a bargain on a guy like Suter if necessary... or just keep the cap space for a later 3C deal.

Red Wings expected to put Zadina on waivers to terminate his contract.

Tarasenko supposedly signed with Canes as reported.

Fwiw, a league source tells me the NHL knows about the #LetsGoCanes signing Tarasenko. Not sure the hold up, but it sounds like a matter of when, not if.

This is kind of old news. Zadina already went through and cleared waivers. As long as the Red Wings have sufficient reason for contract termination, they could do that now if they wanted.

As for Tarasenko, he got new agents today. He's now repped by JP Barry and Pat Brisson. I don't believe any deal that was rumored out there can be true at this point. Word is he wants a multi-year deal and wasn't happy with the offers he was getting via his old agent. Canes and Ottawa are said to be the front runners, but I don't think anything is confirmed at this point. From what I've seen, if Tarasenko was close to a deal, sounds like he didn't like it, fired his agent, and went to the biggest firm out there to get what he wants.

I just read he has agreed to contract termination with RedWings. His cap will come off their books and he will be UFA afterward.

I'm interested to see what he has lined up. All teams passed on him at $1.8×× million each of the next 2 seasons. That's $3.7 million. But it's been posted he's actually walking away from $5 million dollars. Not sure where the differential comes from.

His salary this season is 1.8 million, and his salary next season goes up to 2.7 million. The cap hit on the deal (3 years including last season) is 1.8 million. Could be people didn't want to pay him the 2.7 million next season based on his performance to date.

Gotcha thanks, I read $1.8 this and next.

Hearing #LGRW will place Filip Zadina on unconditional waivers at 12 noon ET today for purposes of mutual contract termination.

Zadina is foregoing the $4.56 million remaining on his deal, seeking a fresh start elsewhere. Huge courage to bet on himself.

Seems like the trade was the easy part of this deal. Negotiating the contract extension was the hold up. Funny how Yzerman didn’t have a problem going big term and money someone like Andrew Copp but was playing hardball with the Cat.

More fuel for my argument that deals often return far less than people think they will.

Bring on EK65 for less than we think!

This deal and more to come are why waiting to spend your available cap cash is the prudent move.

It’s literally the same story every summer.
