This is interesting. Again, I will wait to reserve full judgement until we see what Hextall does or does not do.

I am interested to see what the conditions are on the 2023 1st, because Ottawa is already in the lottery. Maybe it is just if Ottawa were to get 1st overall, Arizona gets a different pick.

Otherwise, Arizona's first, in the top 10, is something most of the other teams (except maybe Columbus) couldn't offer. A top 10 first round pick is better than 2 1st rounders in the 15-25 range, which is hopefully what the Penguins would have been offering.

Miller and Boeser/Garland? Miller and Demko? Again, Miller is puzzling because he is hurt and that has to effect the value, too. Another potential fear...my friend in Vancouver mentioned Burke has a history/liking for Tyler Myers. I am afraid Hextall will do something dumb like include Pettersson only for us to take Myers back in a deal.

It's not panic time. Henrique is still out there. Sissons, Bjugstad, Boyd still out there. Crouse, Boeser, Garland, Bertuzzi....there are still moves to be made.

Every other team in the playoffs in the East has made at least one move to strengthen their team...Toronto, 232 moves. Hextall has less than 48 hours to reshape the 3rd line, maybe still do something on defense, maybe still do something in goal.

The Pens couldn’t take Chychrun’s salary unless more money went out. McGinn clearing waivers made that necessary even if sent down. One can assume that Arizona did not want to take on or retain salary unless the Pens further made it worth their while, which meant more draft picks.

Dumoulin shouldn't be in this teams plans beyond this season. Trading him would have cleared the necessary space for Chychrun

Yes, and I’m expecting him to exit stage left. But as bad as he’s been, he’s worth more to the Penguins now as someone who knows the system and is presently improving. To another team he’s a clearly declining asset that they don’t need to offer anything to sign in the off-season.

What in the Tampa Bay hell...Tampa acquires Michael Eyssimont from SJ.

I really liked what I saw of that guy when we played against SJ.

EDIT: Vlad Namestnikov going to SJ in the deal.

Bertuzzi makes half of what Granlund makes. Would he be much more than $5 million to resign if he fit in?

I’d much rather have done the same deal than the one for Granlund. Then again, doing nothing at all would be better than taking Granlaund even off waivers.

Edited: didn’t see the 50% retained, so resigning at $5 Million would be impossible. Still would had done that over Granlund.

Boston just made a deal WE SHOULD be making, Bertuzzi from Detroit, 50% salary retained.. for 1st rounder 24' and 4th rounder 25'
Same happened with Ottawa yesterday, when they traded for Chychrun -- the deal we should've made.. freaking Hextall sabotager

Reading LeBrun's piece this morning about Chychrun, it honestly sounds like Rossi or someone else seriously over-exaggerated Pittsburgh's involvement. LeBrun's timeline goes through Boston and Columbus, and Edmonton, and LA...but really never talks about Pittsburgh as a major player. Now, maybe LeBrun just didn't frame it that way, but his piece makes it seem like Pittsburgh was maybe just doing some casual checking in on the situation from the outside, and never one of the big teams involved.

This has the signs of an early exit for Boston. They have added so many pieces and had the best team in the league.

Toronto says hello.

Toronto added ROR, Acciari, Schenn, Gustafsson, McCabe, and Lafferty

They also removed Engvall and Sandin.

So 2 out, 6 new in....that's a lot of turnover.

Add the Rangers to this convo...watched their game last night -- where the heck are they going to fit Kane into that mix?
