Isles sign Cizikas to 5 year, 16.75M deal

Apparently the Isles missed the memo about the cap staying flat. 3.35M a year for a 4th line center. A really good 4th line center, but 3.35M for a FOURTH LINE CENTER. That's about 1.35M too much. I'm not sure if they think he's going to step up and take over for Franz Nielsen, or if they just want to overpay bottom 6 players. I guess Matt Martin may become a 4M player if he resigns with the Isles.

Maybe they are anticipating Okposo going somewhere else, which leaves them with a lot of cap room?

I also assume they expect him to be a 3rd line center.

I say articles online complaining about the length of the contract. I have no issues at all with signing a role player that you really like for 5 years. The cap hit is insane though.

Agreed. He's young, 25, and been one of the best 4th line centers in the game. No problem with 5 years.....big problem with cap hit though.

I shudder to think, then, what the Isles may offer up to retain Matt Martin.
