"the NHL will implement three 20-minute 3-on-3 divisional tournaments in lieu of a 60-minute 5-on-5 game.

They will also reportedly forgo the fantasy player draft run by a crew of individual team captains.

What to expect from the All-Star Game appears to be as follows: Each division (Metropolitan, Central, Pacific and Atlantic) will be made up of nine or ten skaters and two or three goaltenders. The two Eastern Conference divisions (Atlantic, Metropolitan) and Western Conference divisions (Pacific, Central) will face off in a 20-minute, 3-on-3 game. The winning division from each side will then play a final game to determine an All-Star Game champion."

Horrible. This is not hockey, this will be another way to mock the game and league as 2nd rate.
Do not sponsor, do not buy tickets.

If the NHL was a ***normal*** corporation that was publicly traded on the stock market, Jim Cramer would have a minute dedicated every show to ridicule them. Honestly, is there any time -- from top to bottom with things like this to handling player discipline -- where the NHL doesn't show how totally incompetent they are?

The All Star games are jokes in all leagues. Let's not pretend this is an NHL thing. Players don't want to play in them for fear of getting hurt. It's just a show for sponsors. Happens in all leagues.

NFL - half the players don't play that are selected
MLB - players decline the home run derby all the time now

Not even the NHL likes the product any more, they find the current game too boring to show on a highlighted stage. Too bad they don't look at ways to improve the 5-5 content, instead.

The all star game it self is a joke and not just in the NHL. Have an autograph session for the fans and be done with it. It is no longer a showcase of the best players and what they do. Its a red carpet event for the fans to get autographs.

Glad the draft is done with. Players choose their team mates first and Ovi tries to get picked last/

There was a time that not only did I watch the all star game, but looked forward to it. I am sure that we all did odd things when we were young...

As if the all star wasn't a high scoring event are they going to have to add another column for the 100 spot?? I guess there isn't much you can do to this event to make it better?? Its more about a social event than about the game.

Really what can you do to make this event a interesting game?? Nothing, so I guess 3 on 3 why not?? Nothing could make this game feel like a real game.

The All star game should focus around the winter classic... The home team vs its biggest rival one day (a real game) then at the arena you have the all star team meeting the public then playing their exhibition.

That wouldn't have mattered. Scott is in the Pacific division and has no effect on the Central division. Blake Wheeler is the 7th leading scorer in the league and Toews is listed as the 77th in points in the entire league per NHL.com. I don't care what he's done in the past, this year's All Star game (a joke as it may be) is for the 2015-2016 All Stars.
