His save numbers notwithstanding, Melancon makes me a tad nervous when he enters the game. Maybe more than a tad.

Yeah he's been on the edge in a lot of appreances the last 6 weeks or so. I actually like Watson's command recently more than Melancon's "FB - Cutter - FB" cadence. When that cutter is on, its great. When he leaves it up.. kaboom.

Votto was chirping at the home plate umpire in an earlier AB. Votto was trying to work the ump and instead the ump worked him. Joey, the plate does have an outside corner, maybe you missed it.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Votto spectacle.

In other words it's just Votto being Votto. He egged on the confrontation in the last series and he does that nonsense with umpires all the time. He needs to be fined and suspended.

Exactly the attitude he displayed throughout night.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the umpire's locker room after the game.

Here we go again...Brewers up 3-0.

Of course, Bucs go down in order in the bottom of the first.

Wake them bats up, Bucs!

Tonight's sports options:

Bucs vs. Brewers and the typical script--playing out as we speak ("bonus" if the Cardinals beat the Reds. Hopefully, the Phils-Cubs won't get out of their rain delay.)

Steelers, without Bell and Bryant, with dat secondary vs. Tom Terrific with Hoodie (Bill) and the Blowhards (Pats fans)

Which will be less painful?

Ah, who am I kidding...I'll follow both. I can't help it.

it just screams to the world that Bucs fans are unimaginative and about 10 years behind the rest of the world. It gives fuel to those who call Pittsburgh a backwards backwater town.

But the thing I dislike the most is that the Pens and Bucs hate it and yet the fans show so little respect for them and still do it. In that regard, I think the wooers are brats. And I'm at the point in my life where I can't deal with other people's petulant, rude kids.

If you can't get with the times, get clever, or get a clue, then at least show some respect for the team.

And that was my Annual Baseball Season Antiwooer Rant, brought to you by Dulcolax, for gentle, predictable overnight relief.

Let's go, Buccos! The Cards are suddenly catchable, and it's up to the Bucs not to let them off the hook. They just can't keep blowing golden opportunities, but Locke is on the hill and Kang is out tonight.

Thank goodness we won't see the Brewers anymore after tonight; those 7 losses in a row... :face:

Edit, later...

So, it's 10-2 in the top of the 8th for our guys! I love a nice Bucco blow out victory, but I always worry that the bats will go ice-cold for the entire following series. Can't happen now, since the next series is vs. the Cubbies.

Hope the Brewers are so ticked off that they take it out on the Cards this week.

To hell with you, Phils. Up 5-1 in T8th and give up 4 to the Cubs. Now tied 5-5 B9th.

Update: Cody Asche! HR! Phils walk off, 7-5!!!

Still, to hell with you, Phils.

It feels like there's a universal mandate that prohibits the Pirates from getting within less than 2.5 games of the Cardinals. So far, it's not shaping up to be a good day today.

Lunch Box Hero with a ground-rule double, starting the comeback!

Hope the Reds can mount their own before it's too late.

Update: Yeah, the Reds are getting clobbered.

Update 2: And there was nooooo doubt about it!

So, here I am, watching game 1 of the doubleheader, Bucs are up 4-1, and I'm thinking you can never have too many runs against the Cubs.

And now it's a tie game headed to B7th. Just handing them a game we need to win.

At least the Cubs 'pen gives us some advantage.

Just when I thought the Pirates were through giving up games to division opponents...

Oh well, it's not over yet.
