this is not one of them.
even though the goalie is way out, it's not an empty net. also, there is a player between Hossa and the net so he's not "in the clear".

Thanks... I had some time to look it up this morning, and it doesn't look like a penalty shot would be warranted, based on 2 and 4 below
NHL Rule 24.8 wrote: There are four (4) specific conditions that must be met in order for
the Referee to award a penalty shot for a player being fouled from
behind. They are:
(i) The infraction must have taken place in the neutral zone or attacking
zone;
(ii) The infraction must have been committed from behind;
(iii) The player in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the
Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the
puck) must have been denied a reasonable chance to score (the fact
that he got a shot off does not automatically eliminate this play from
the penalty shot consideration criteria. If the foul was from behind and
he was denied a “more” reasonable scoring opportunity due to the
foul, then the penalty shot should be awarded);
(iv) The player in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the
Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the
puck) must have had no opposing player between himself and the
goalkeeper.

Great find. That is remarkable.

I'm drafting my own offer sheet for Brandon Saad. I've got $175.32 burning a hole in my pocket.

I'm adding the following:
1. a smiley cookie from the Squirrel Hill Eat 'n Park
2. an old Donnie Iris cassette tape
3. an extra EZ-Pass reader
4. 1 ticket to Kennywood
5. a fall 1995 grad Stats syllabus from Pitt
6. a stolen pylon ( > than a chair to hold your parking space; looks more legit)
7. a ticket stub from a old Dead show at Star Lake
8. my grandma's looks (she always used to ask us if they were enough to pay for expensive things; I think they can only help here)
9. an Oliver Perez bobblehead
10. an old Pens playoff rally towel

...and what else, aside from my undying affection?

The last minute of that game was as exciting as a non-Pens game gets.

Durbano, would you like to go canning with me for the Brandon Saad Offer Sheet "Foundation"?

The more we can sneak to him under the table, the lower the cap hit can be, right?

4. box of Pens' wheaties

I'm a team player, Lt. I'm in with:

1. Mint condition original copies of the Pittsburgh Press and the Post-Gazette from the first four Steelers Super Bowl wins

2. Bryan-Watson autographed Pens yearbook from the early 1970s

3. Multiple Tom Barrasso Iron City Beer cans (very fun to crush)

4. Unopened box of Fleury Flakes

5. An even older Iron City House Rockers cassette tape

6. An original 45 of Terry Bradshaw's "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"

7. The Big Kahuna: A large piece of concrete from the immediate aftermath of the Three Rivers Stadium implosion.

I'm feeling better about this, ville and Durbano. You're team players, indeed. A 100-year-old woman's babushka and Three Rivers concrete? That's major ammo--some feels from the gut.

Someone take this show to Twitter!

Definitely an exciting end to the game. Chicago was hemmed in for a long time and even if they did get the puck out, the Bolts got the puck back in and really outworked Chicago on the forecheck. I'm still surprised that game didn't go to OT. It certainly looked that way, if it wasn't for Seabrook's stick on Stamkos' shot...

I completely agree. That ending was as good as it's gets. I really thought the Bolts had one at the end from the low slot. Someone got a stick on it and deflected it away.

This is why I love hockey, especially the playoffs.

Have to figure Chicago closes it out on Monday.

Tampa's losses have a sadly familiar look.

You may be right Durbano, but playing on the road does not seem to bother the Bolts.

I am mystified why the NHL schedules a game 7 (if its gets that far) for a Wednesday night. Delay it until the weekend for maximum ratings. What's a couple days? We've waited this long.

There it is, Duncan Keith. 1-0 Hawks.

Bolts can't get anything going and now they're headed to the box, as their season comes down to 20 minutes. Kill this thing and then go all out.

Edit: 9:00 left and I just don't see it happening for Tampa.

I don't get jealous at stuff like this, but I'm suffering from Hawks fatigue. I won't be watching the Cup presentation. Nope, no thank you.

Edit 2: 2-0 Hawks. < click > Goodnight.

I'm not wishing for it, but man, I wonder how Chicago would handle the plague and pestilence that the Pens have suffered the past few years.

They're a great team that's been blessed by incredible good luck on the health front.

Speaking of health, Hawks--yes, a great team--also got injuries to Kucherov and Bishop, too. Again, lucky as hell, and they probably didn't need it.

Would've liked to see Stamkos do something, anything, this series. Disappointing, imo.

I hope Keith doesn't get gypped out of a Conn Smythe again, but I bet he will. Edit: NO, he got it this time! Well deserved. (Told you, I couldn't deal with watching the presentation. :P )

We'll be back, guys. The Pens will be back.

Chicago is the team I think we all hoped the Pens would be.

I'm a Stamkos fan but he came up small in this series. No guarantee he ever makes it back, despite Keith's graciousness in the on-ice interview.

Tampa scored two goals in the final three games. Wonder how much credit Crawford will get.

After the handshake line in 2009, if anyone had told me Hossa would win three Cups....

I'll let the Hawks have their damn dynasty if the Bucs win the World Series this year. 8-)

I didn't expect Chicago to struggle after their 2010 or 2013 Cups, but I don't think they'll escape the cap crunch this time with Kane and Toews hitting at 10.5 each this year. If I'm a Chicago fan, though, I can deal with that after the last several years.
